  • So beautiful and magic kantele ! listen also "kun mun kultani tulisi " by Loïtuma... from Kalevala too ! great thanks for post it !

  • Where can I find the score? thanks!

  • makes me sad

  • ihana

what is it called and who is playing...

  • I wish the poem was being sung as well. In the documentary of the Making of the Lord of The Rings, they speak of J.R.R Tolkiens inspiration for the the elvish language, that came from the origin of the Finnish and Karelian national epic, the Kalevala. In the documentary, this women was singing it very well, while they showed the last man alive to know the whole, epically long poem, and tune. He's dead now, I think, of old age, and the existence of his people and language died along with him. Sad

  • @VocaloidMixer haha i looked this up just because i saw the docu. last night and i wanted to hear it as we heard it in the doc.

  • @VocaloidMixer I saw that too, and I was wondering where to find that particular song... I've had no luck with the legal routes. :| I wish I could find that tune. I like it so much.

  • @VocaloidMixer I know! I saw that too, Iv been looking for that song for so long now.

  • Surullinen ja piinaava rallatus aika kulunut.

  • @TheDarkiana Kiitos! (sorry, I don't speak Finnish)

  • Where Can I Download this?

  • @iLIKEww2STUFF I don' know how to download it from YouTube. I can send the file to your personal email, if you give me your address.

  • Very beautiful! Thank you for sharing this awesome video.

  • @teiska123 Thank YOU for listening to it :-)

  • Awesome tune

  • @SolntsaSvet Many thanks!

  • It is my beautiful melody. But unfortunately I can't find any artists who play this one and whose CDs can be bought in my country. I wasn't even able to download anything on the net.

  • If you could find a program like Audio HiJack Pro, you could record it straight from here.

I use purchase methods myself, but when there is no purchase available, I often do something like that.

Of course, you could simply request the file from Lira, here.

  • you can download video from youtube and extract the music from video file into an MP3

  • guess you'll like this one. Ensiferum- kalevala melody.

  • @Abigor922 Thank you for recommendation.

  • Thank you for your reply Iiraxtime.I think the most important matters are musics, melodies, renditions and how you play those melodies by your musical instruments.

You are always welcome to Finland.

  • Thank you for your support.

There is a group of kantele players in Japan going to Finland every year. If I continue practicing, then one day....

  • well you can see some pictures via googlemaps / google earth program by using the streetview utility

it got pretty huge picture database, considering even my house is found in it and I live in quite desolate location

  • Just wondering how do these monasteries relate to Kalevala (the lore predates modern religions)? Nevertheless, beatiful pictures.. I had the privilege to photograph / document the restoration work at Old Valamo monastery near Sortavala lake Ladoga just breathtaking.

  • I have chosen these link-free pictures only by my image of Finland. (I have never been there)

  • Reply to Hollandia777,

This minster is located on Karelia region near the border of Finland and a big lake"Laatokka"in Russia.

  • Thank you for your help. I have no knowledge about geography there. It is my dream to visit Finland one day.

  • Sure you are right. Here in Finland we've had a really nice "White Christmas".It has been snowed almost one week.Outside temperature is right now minus 15-deg in Lapland.

I wish you a happy new year.Liraxtime!!!Carry on nice playing coming year as well pls.

  • Oh, it's freeeezing cold!!

I am now back to Tokyo, with daytime temperature rising to 10 deg.

2010 is a year of tiger. Best wishes!

  • Could u, please, tell me which city is shown with the church at 0:50?

  • OMG.You made me almost cry.Cause It's so beautiful version of Kalevala played by KANTELE.Besides familiar pitures are really fine.I enjoyed it very much Thank you Liraxtime.

  • I arranged it as simple as possible, cause I am just a beginner player. Thank you for listening.

  • And when all hope was gone i visited my attic. I came back looking like santa claus with my Kantele :D

  • Ho ho ho! I believe you had nice Christmas.

  • FUCK! I had a kantele but i lost it :(

But i know its somewhere in my house...

  • I hope you could find your kantele soon:D

  • this is very Beautiful ...... Lol i heard about this in my intro to the hobbit

  • Thank you for listening!

  • beautiful....are the pictures from some special place in Finland?

  • Thank you for your comment. I tried to collect them from Karelian region.

  • Well, I can indentify some locations:

0:19 -> is main church of orthodox monastery Uusi-Valamo in Heinävesi.

0:39 -> is not in Finland, it is located somewhere in Russia.

    Recognising lakes is utterly impossible.

1:37 -> statue of Väinämöinen in the wall of Uusi Ylioppilastalo in central Helsinki.

2:00 -> Auroras look like to be photographed at some ski resort. Most of them are situated in Northern Finland, also, auroras are more common there.

  • No just regular (but beautiful) scenery from Karelia.

  • Try to search ''Saimaa'' in google earth and look at the pictures.

Our little summer villa isby that lake :D

  • Ensiferums version of this song is pretty nice aswell, Kalevala Melody, same as "Finnish Medley : Karjalan Kunnailla" Wich is based on 3 of finlands nation songs. Check it out :)

  • Many thanks for your suggestion. I need to learn more!

  • In Old Man (Väinämöinen Part I) they use a modified version of this melody, too. It's the part where they sing "Sweeter far than life I found / That love was / Sweeter far than love to die / as he did". Check that out! :D

  • Beautiful melody, i love it!

  • great songs, love it

  • Thank you for paying attention to my video.

For those Finnish speaking people, I am sorry I don't understand your language...

    Your sincere comment is appreciated.

  • suomalaiset ottaa yhteen liikaa.

  • Karelian music is much older than the Christianity in Finland (or the Catholic church or the Lutheran church) but it is INFLUENCED by Christianity

  • this song is not as far as i know influenced by christianity but others are

  • The one from Ensiferum is also really good, check it out!

  • I love this melody, it represents everything we Finns are within. As for the description, this isn't actually inspired by Kalevala, because the melody and runesinging tradition is thousands of years old, and Kalevala was compiled only 160 years ago. (And Kalevala only scratches the surface of the total amount of Finnish folklore) About the reply to SIT805's comment, this is after all a pagan melody, and churches don't have much to do with pagan traditions.

  • indeed finnish culture is underestimated becouse there was no literature in pagan finland

  • minun suomi =)))))

  • Suomi on kaunis!

  • I agree with you:-)

  • epic Kalevala is krajalaines

  • Thank you for your comment. I wish I could study Finnish.

  • It`s very beautiful.. Kantele..

Runes of epic Kalevala songin into this music

  • Aren't the images of churches kinda irrelevant though?

  • Are the churches in the Karelia region irrelevant to Karelian music??

  • beautiful! very haunting.

  • Thank you! I love your Celtic harp.

  • Lovely. I miss seeing your hands as you play.

  • Oh, then I have to attach a video recorder on my head!?

  • That was beautiful. I heard your mic picking up some sounds, but it wasn't too intrusive. =)

  • You are right, I need a better mic for music...
