I think too many people are judging him on his looks and his beliefs, sure he doesn't look like a "typical" martial artist but his form is quite good.

hey folk,just because your from a different family does mean you can say thats not a tiger tech,in fact it is a tiger tech tiger catchs the lamb is what it is called.the only thing i dis agree with is that you can use it against larger opps.because you would direct your strike to vital areas and the claw also rips, so size is irrelevent.
In real life if you throw a high kick you might hit but against a skilled opponent they are going to drop into a back bow or capture your leg and then you are off balance and they are poised to strike you.
We worked on our sweeps yesterday. When we did we would do a sweep and then we would go straght into a roll. The reason being a sweep has them off balance and so you might be able to strike them but I would laugh if when you tried to sweep them they don't move and drop their knee on your face

martial arts were used for war in ancient trivial times by asians who had the necessity of defending themselves. now a days they are not necessarily used for this purpose. I bet missionaries are teaching martial arts to save their people from becoming defenseless fatties. I believe the bible sends the head of the house (the man) to guard it with his life. I dont suppose him to do that by preying to cast the enemy away. fighting is necessary in some cases.
Religion has nothing to do with technique or the purpose of the teaching. He is a Christian yes but he is not preaching the word of god, he is just showing a form of selfdefense, exercise, or anyway you want to use it. Nothing to do with religion.
well, this is what hppens when the missionaries get thier hands on martial arts. They start filling it with so many moral and ethical values that there is no real link to the way that the martial art was supposed to be tought, it becomes so different that martial artists who study the "pure" style version complain that they dont know what they are talking about. Its not that they dont know the art, its just thatits different to how it should be tought because its changed to suit a christian life
Actually traditional martial arts are taught with a great deal of moral obligations, all Christian martial artists do is use the Christian moral system and beliefs instead of converting to Taoism, Buddhism, or any other eastern religion. The techniques are not changed but rather explored for their effectiveness and taught as realistic techniques. At least this is true in my school.
I would point out that different believe structures have different moral values. If you change what is beliefs behind the styles, you also change how they are used. A strike meant for killing or maiming may be used is several of these styles, but depending on what belief structure is behind it, those moves may be "left out". It's not limited to these styles, but they serve as a good example considering the difference between Chines beliefs and modern christian ones.
I see your point. However in my particular style we still teach deadly techniques. In fact Buddhist beliefs are very similar to Christian in this aspect. The idea is to only use such techniques in absolute necessity. We have a multitude of strikes and techniques that could kill, self control and knowing the situation is key. This is also not unlike traditional arts. I can only speak for my style however. Thanks for the input! God bless...Peace

One thing about some kung fu instructors is that they don't explore versatility of each move... for example though I like this guy in the clip, he states at the end a shorter person can't use the lunge technique- in a real fight the move could be very effective by a shorter person in close to a bigger person and lunging more upward at the throat and chin of the taller person -with no reach disadvantage while in close..
oh yes- I can believe that. We see more than a few kung fu masters/ expert students who can do vertical jumping double split kicks at that height. Takes strong stomach muscles and flexible legs.

Americanized schools throw in belts because the parents love it. It's not central to the Chinese methods. There are good (and bad) schools the employ belt systems, and good (and bad) schools that don't. They have no bearing on the legitimacy of the art.

Secondly, jesus was not copied from the egyptian god horus, his principles are unique and can only be compared to buddhism if anything. now the silly dogmas and traditions instilled by the church in later years (none of which were ever even claimed to be mentioned by Jesus) can most certainly be pinned to pagan traditions.

martial arts were used for war in ancient trivial times by asians who had the necessity of defending themselves. now a days they are not necessarily used for this purpose. I bet missionaries are teaching martial arts to save their people from becoming defenseless fatties. I believe the bible sends the head of the house (the man) to guard it with his life. I dont suppose him to do that by preying to cast the enemy away. fighting is necessary in some cases.

Religion has nothing to do with technique or the purpose of the teaching. He is a Christian yes but he is not preaching the word of god, he is just showing a form of selfdefense, exercise, or anyway you want to use it. Nothing to do with religion.

well, this is what hppens when the missionaries get thier hands on martial arts. They start filling it with so many moral and ethical values that there is no real link to the way that the martial art was supposed to be tought, it becomes so different that martial artists who study the "pure" style version complain that they dont know what they are talking about. Its not that they dont know the art, its just thatits different to how it should be tought because its changed to suit a christian life

Actually traditional martial arts are taught with a great deal of moral obligations, all Christian martial artists do is use the Christian moral system and beliefs instead of converting to Taoism, Buddhism, or any other eastern religion. The techniques are not changed but rather explored for their effectiveness and taught as realistic techniques. At least this is true in my school.

I would point out that different believe structures have different moral values. If you change what is beliefs behind the styles, you also change how they are used. A strike meant for killing or maiming may be used is several of these styles, but depending on what belief structure is behind it, those moves may be "left out". It's not limited to these styles, but they serve as a good example considering the difference between Chines beliefs and modern christian ones.

I see your point. However in my particular style we still teach deadly techniques. In fact Buddhist beliefs are very similar to Christian in this aspect. The idea is to only use such techniques in absolute necessity. We have a multitude of strikes and techniques that could kill, self control and knowing the situation is key. This is also not unlike traditional arts. I can only speak for my style however. Thanks for the input! God bless...Peace

One thing about some kung fu instructors is that they don't explore versatility of each move... for example though I like this guy in the clip, he states at the end a shorter person can't use the lunge technique- in a real fight the move could be very effective by a shorter person in close to a bigger person and lunging more upward at the throat and chin of the taller person -with no reach disadvantage while in close..

....not sure if that is spelled right.... but it translates to one leg it is used for cleaning or avoiding a kick.

Americanized schools throw in belts because the parents love it. It's not central to the Chinese methods. There are good (and bad) schools the employ belt systems, and good (and bad) schools that don't. They have no bearing on the legitimacy of the art.
