Also in San Francisco KGO-TV has a 9pm newscast on KOFY-TV 20. How can both WABC and KGO succeed most SF and NY residents use Bart, MTA and Ferries to get to work and home.
Look at KGO and WABC they just jumped the 4pm Newscast there just because Oprah has left. The question here is how can WABC and KGO adapt to a 4pm newscast when KABC has had a 4pm newscast for 30 years WABC and KGO weill never be like KABC.
@deandagati It was worked out pretty well. WSVN has 3 hours of news in the afternoon from 4:00-7:00 PM & it's ratings are usually high. And to @applesauce2100 happy birthday! not only WABC is doing this: WSB-TV Atlanta, WPVI Philadelphia & other stations that are replacing Oprah at 4:00 with local news. the 4:00 news time on weekdays is actually getting really popular now across the country
@Pookatube Either that or WNBC may revive the NBC 4 brand and rename its newscast as 'NBC 4 Metro News'. Otherwise, I have no problem with WNBC's current general brand and news brand ('News 4 New York').
WSVN (Fox affiliate in Miami) started news at 4 a few years ago and I think it's worked out well for them. They're they only news at 4 in the market so I think it's a pretty nice idea. I never ever watch WABC for news (I'm all about WCBS), but there have definitely been situations when I'd like to see the news at 4, so I'll definitely give it a chance.
It's ironic how WNBC is going the opposite direction and cutting news and timeslots for junk while WABC is expanding in every way they can. Just a perfect way to display how one is poorly run and lacks good management while the other continues to display the right approach and mindset.

Happy B-day! The LAST time there was a lengthy evening newscast, CBS 2 had it. Unfortunately, that one was short - lived.

WNBC should dump LXTV at 5 and rebrand their news as Channel 4 Metro News with the tag line "If it matters to you, it matters to us!"
