So why don't they start the ball rolling? It isn't like We the People Giving money to this lobby group is going to create the Referendum to Change simply by us giving them money.
Only registered voters should be able to donate to a campaign and only for campaigns being conducted within the district in which they reside. This would bring the power back to the people and not hand it to the Corporations or the Unions. Muzzling corporations without likewise muzzling unions would be a travesty.... after all... this is about fairness... Isn't it?
It is time for Americans to wake up and take action. There will never be true democracy in this country until we reign in corporate power. Join Move to Ammend . org or another organization that is fighting to overturn corporate power. Wake Up People!
We need a #Revolution to keep DC honest every 20 years or the Mafia is Born and Innocent Citizens die for Greed Health Care is a Silent Genocied 4 the People in the USA
If you really want to change congress go to DEMOCRATZ dott ORG and see links for petitions you can sign which DEMAND progressive legislation such as a single payer public option, and as soon as you sign a petition email gets sent out right now.
Looking at who corporations have supported, they've sent about twice what unions have, yet their support is spit between both the Republicans and the Democrats, mostly to Republicans, and looking at who the unions have supported, its' unanimous Democrats, so much so that it's almost an dead heat, although the Democrats come out slightly ahead.
BTW, who do you think owns publicly traded corporations?
That's what I am saying, so unions will be blocked, 501 groups, non profit corporations will be blocked...if you don't keep the movement intellectually honest...it will not pass or gain any traction. You are essentially supporting the abolition of freedom of association. If You had your way, I can not give money to a 501 group that would advocate my interests.
if you are associated with some group, go and vote according to your association but you cant collect billions and billions of dollars and support some candidate, there should be an equal limit for everyone to have the chance to be heard. limiting freedom of speech? no, vote according to your believes.
@AesopsRetreat Unions protect workers. Corporations protect profits. There's a distinct difference. But I agree that union power has gotten too strong and does need to be reduced.
You honestly think unions always protect workers? Yes, they protect the current workers at the expense of an entire industry. Corporations provide goods and services and are checked by the profit/loss motive...free enterprise spurred these corporations..and they are frankly responsible for most of the eradication of poverty...
If you know about American history, you'd know that unions were created out of necessity. Corporations are NOT responsible for the eradication of poverty. Workers in many industries used to be treated and paid horribly and entire families (including young children) had to work just to get by. Some unions have become too powerful, but let's not shit on history. The US, with the most free market out of all first world nations, is among the highest poverty countries among industrialized nations.
I have studied this stuff, You are sloppily mixing rule of law with corporations. There is a difference between enforcing employment contracts and property rights and assuming just because I am for free enterprise that I would condone breaking the law, no I don't. But history is clear, growth comes out of the private sector.
Corporations and free enterprise are the reasons why there is a reduction in poverty. In case you haven't checked, look up Hong Kong and Ireland, Look up Australia, the heritage foundation has been running an economic freedom index for a while now, it is really good...look at the source. All I am saying is that you will have to restrict all corps (bodies) of people....think about it!
Don't make the mistake, I am against corporatism, because it is essentially big government....but I understand that the "public good" is a farce, because we all have our own interests EXCEPT freedom of speech and division of powers...it's the best we can get.
Put it this way, if you are truly honest about this movement, you will have to be against all concentration of power.....division of power is our Constitution in a nutshell....vertically and horizontally.
I think you best line of attack is to say that a corporation that is not fully owned by US citizens is not fully covered by the US Constitution. People are either a full US citizen or they aren't. Yeah, dual citizenship, but still the entire person would be either one or the other, not a half citizen. IF GE were owned partially by a person in Russia that has no ties to US citizenship then GE is at least partially Russian and not fully a US Citizen. Not a full citizn not full rights of one.
see the problem is reagan conservatism wouldn't be as popular if it didn't have alot of corporate money to brainwash people into believing in it. republicans are the party of money over people.
Oh, there is a huge difference between true conservatism and what we call "conservatism" in America today. True conservatives should be completely against this if they believe in the representative powers of the government. The problem is conservative leaders of the party today are not real "conservatives."
If not for SANTA CLARA COUNTY v. SOUTHERN PAC. R. CO.,118 U.S. 394 (1886) Supreme Court decision (without argument), corporations would not enjoy all the rights and privileges accorded "natural" citizens under the Constitution. Why doesn't the government prosecute? The fact is that Washington is not government of, by and for the PEOPLE, but government of, by, and for the dollar!
It now seems logical and necessary to challenge the Santa Clara decision now. The 'corporate personhood" was as I understand it, a memoradum included into the decision. How is that decided law now?
A Supreme Court decision is final, and may not be overturned unless the Court agrees to hear another case of the same type, or Congress passes remedial legislation.
I believe you are correct inasmuch as the Supreme Court ruling made no mention of corporations being granted protection under the 14th Amendment. This was presumed by the Court reporter.
Oh no, I know that a SCOTUS decision is final. But what I meant was that a test case should be organized and forwarded to deliberately challenge the basic law. Something like accusing a corporation of a crime that would be subject to capital punishment, aka dissolving it's charter. Absurd, sure. But it has to be started somewhere.
It seems we could begin by False Claims Act (qui tam) lawsuits for Medicare and Medicaid fraud by pharmaceutical companies such as Merck, TAP Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer and Schering-Plough Corp..
Correction: we are a democratic republic. Officials are directly elected with the exception of the President and Vice President of the United States. By the way, we should abolish the Electoral College, and we should adopt proportional representation.
The rightwingers have no interest in the rights of the people. They only understand millions of dollars in bribes they get from these corporations. Don't think for one minute that they care for you. Just watch the Senate and see for yourself. They are just a bunch of power-hungry mongrels.

Everyone will be homeless except the CEOs and they will make it illegal for homeless to be seen in public so we can all build some houseboats and go live 3 miles off shore, or whatever the limit is, Take lots of portable grills and extra gas canisters to cook the fish you can still catch. And a separate boat with a water filtration system on it so you can desalinate the water.

1. Even with "rule of law", many corporations treat their employees horribly. See: Walmart.
2. Hong Kong and Ireland are first world nations now? I didn't get the memo.
3. Economic growth comes out of the private sector. No shit. I didn't make a claim against this.
4. Still, thinking that corporations eradicate poverty is pure insanity.
