I live in Britain and we couldn't believe some of the comments that were made in the US about universal health care. From a European perspective it seems extraordinary that any modern country doesn't have universal healthcare. It's something we sorted out nearly 70 years ago.

The US public debt has become so huge, that it is inconcievable that it will ever be paid. The US taxpayer will have to continue to pay interest and interest on interest for as long as they´ll live. However this system can´t continue for ever, so at some point the US federal government will either default or cut the expenditures by 50-70%.

When we tried to insure just my husband, he was declined for pre-existing conditions. Our state pool wants nearly $900/month to insure him - more than UHC wanted to cover BOTH of us in 2007.
If we still lived in the UK we'd pay $200/month for our pension AND healthcare coverage. And that's as self-employed.

Obviously Cenk has never read the law. The law raised premiums on all private industries, my family lost our health care just because of that. The law called it a "Cadillac plan". Also Cenk is wrong on that people have gotten covered. The care part doesn't take effect until 2014. Right now all of the taxes and regulations are being enacted raising prices even more. That was the point of the bill, to anger people against the current system so the gov. can enact the single payer system they wanted
The only reason why those rates are going up is because the insurance companies know that they only have a short time left to gouge people before the law takes full effect so they are doing their utmost to fatten their wallets and bank accounts on the backs of working people by charging them usurious premium rates for second rate services and then denying them care when they need it because it's not profitable for them to actually provide the services they are contractually obligated to provide.
@Hammerfall794 No, I have read the law myself. I know a doctor who was one of the sixty doctors that had to read the law to. I know his perspective and I know from what I read. All Cadillac health care plans would have their rates forced up upon the passing of the law. The taxes placed into the law all would take immediate effect on passage. The idea was to save up money for a few years to help pay for it. Instead it is raising prices so people can't afford what they are on currently.

Funny thing, U.S. per capita health care expenses are 1.5 times those of Canada, while Canadians' life expectancy is 3 yrs more than Americans, despite 40 yrs or more of so-called socialized medicine. And the health care system in Quebec, where I live, belongs to us and is accountable to us. Not perfect, sure, but better than what you guys have, I think.
I changed jobs last year and we got Anthem (another fucking criminal Ayn Rand name) as our insurers. Those fuckers decided that I didn't need the prescription medicine that I've been taken for six years, based on their doctor's opinion. Anthem's 'doctor' (probably an accountant) has never spoken to me or my doctor. These insurance companies have no respect for human life at all. It's all about their bottom line.

To say that public debt has not been going over the top since the healthcare bill passed, is not exactly right.
The US public debt has become so huge, that it is inconcievable that it will ever be paid. The US taxpayer will have to continue to pay interest and interest on interest for as long as they´ll live. However this system can´t continue for ever, so at some point the US federal government will either default or cut the expenditures by 50-70%.

When we tried to insure just my husband, he was declined for pre-existing conditions. Our state pool wants nearly $900/month to insure him - more than UHC wanted to cover BOTH of us in 2007.
If we still lived in the UK we'd pay $200/month for our pension AND healthcare coverage. And that's as self-employed.

Obviously Cenk has never read the law. The law raised premiums on all private industries, my family lost our health care just because of that. The law called it a "Cadillac plan". Also Cenk is wrong on that people have gotten covered. The care part doesn't take effect until 2014. Right now all of the taxes and regulations are being enacted raising prices even more. That was the point of the bill, to anger people against the current system so the gov. can enact the single payer system they wanted

The only reason why those rates are going up is because the insurance companies know that they only have a short time left to gouge people before the law takes full effect so they are doing their utmost to fatten their wallets and bank accounts on the backs of working people by charging them usurious premium rates for second rate services and then denying them care when they need it because it's not profitable for them to actually provide the services they are contractually obligated to provide.

All Cadillac health care plans would have their rates forced up upon the passing of the law. The taxes placed into the law all would take immediate effect on passage. The idea was to save up money for a few years to help pay for it. Instead it is raising prices so people can't afford what they are on currently.

Funny thing, U.S. per capita health care expenses are 1.5 times those of Canada, while Canadians' life expectancy is 3 yrs more than Americans, despite 40 yrs or more of so-called socialized medicine. Infant mortality is also lower here than in the U.S. So it's really funny hearing those Republicans say stuff like that. And the health care system in Quebec, where I live, belongs to us and is accountable to us. Not perfect, sure, but better than what you guys have, I think.

Those fuckers decided that I didn't need the prescription medicine that I've been taken for six years, based on their doctor's opinion. Anthem's 'doctor' (probably an accountant) has never spoken to me or my doctor. These insurance companies have no respect for human life at all. It's all about their bottom line.

I know a 4 year old whose leukemia may not have been treated if he weren't covered because of this bill. He seriously didn't have coverage until September 23rd last year due to his preexisting condition. He may not have been alive today. But he is, which is wonderful. I'm so thankful~!
