  • YAAY MU COUNTRY! Shame that the presidnt died. The new president is Ondimba

  • You'd think with all the money Gabon receives if nothing else their dictator would set up a few fruit plantations.

  • "The fledgling Gabonese agricultural industry"....our Gabonese friend Leonelle likes it.

  • "when u have oil u can do anything you want"

  • Rabi Lite and Rabi Blend, some very good crude oil. surprising the state oil company never launched its own marketing and trading operation. Shell and Total just manage the oil sales for the most part.

  • you have to give a damn about your country, you have to give a damn about your people......smh in disgust

  • Nothing amazing really, the oil industry means you need westerners with the technical know how and people like to eat food from their home country when they're working away. I doubt the ordinary Gabonese people are buying imported foie gras.

  • The only thing that unites everybody , regarding race, religion etc, is when tragedy strikes like a Huricane or when the national soccer team plays, Something I love about LatAm is that wherever you go, you dont feel like an outsiders, not like in Europe and some parts of the USA, but I understand them, they have to much inmigrants coming with no papers. And like you said I'm gonna stop talkin sh*t about Africa, because I have never been there, every country has it good and bad things.

  • it's crazy it was just n Gabon with my husband from feb- may I have been every where in that video im so serious the city is so small. People looked at me all the time becuase they barley get amercians coming there. I looked and dressed different from the average woman but I felt very welcome there and hope to go back soon.

  • You have got to be kidding me. This Bongo dude has been in office since the 60's!!! How can he be called a president? Countries like this couldn't possibly be considered democracies. Why aren't we helping the political systems in countries like this instead of starting nonsense wars in the Middle East?

  • @GGLebo23 he passed away last year. His cabinet took over his office and have since then geared towards bringing in tourism

  • wow

  • THIS JOURNALIST IS SO FUCKING IGNORANT

  • This video is VERY misleading to the Westerner that has never been to Africa. Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania all have supermarkets like this. They are not for the avaerge/poor civilian of Africa. And the man with the shotgun in the supermarket is a common sight and shouldn't be feared. This journalist has obviously never been to any other African country, or else maybe he is just good at being a cunt.

  • Dont just blame the Westerners, I just watched in VH1, a big fat ass women that said she was the wife of the Minister of Defense of Gabon, searching for a 30 million dollar house in Beverly Hills. They are never going to have the standard of living of Norway, because is full of corrupted people, uneducated people like 99.99 porcent of africa. Beside oil they dont produce anything, they are just stupid consumers. Good Luck Gabon, Pray that Oil nevers rans out.

  • @HondurasHD Honduras is no better, a Spanish banana republic, fix your own country before you put down others. In all of Latin America no country was able to liberate themselves from the Spaniards yet you open your mouth to talk rubbish about Africa. At least we have our own culture and languages, you guys are so confused that you think the language and culture of the Spanish colonizer is your own. Give me a break, what a hypocrite.

  • @EgbesuJuju2010 I know my country is has corrupted and undeveloped like some countries in Africa, but never has worst like Sub Saharian Africa. Does countries are really full of problems: War, AIDS, Hunger, Genocide, Dictators just to mention a few.

The only thing that prospers is the production of babies. Is ridiculous to compare it with Latin America, You don't have a Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica or a Brasil, at least most of the people can read, access to good hospital, no WARS or Genocide.

  • @HondurasHD I hope when you talk about aids and coups and war you ask why is this the case. I think you should do more research on how aids developed in Africa and Haiti. To be honest I am not impressed with any of the countries you mentioned. Most are dominated by European colonialists and the masses are extremely oppressed. Latin America has a system close to apartheid they should be fighting. Indians should be fighting to get back their stolen lands I guess the Spaniards lucked out.

  • @EgbesuJuju2010 I Hope some day your country and my become prosperous, united by the culture of development. That way the only responsibles of our destiny is ourselves, not blaming it on the Europeans. By the way where I live 30 percent of the population is black, so dont tell me we dont have Culture, our Culture is a blend of European, black, Indigenous, Culture evolves.

  • @HondurasHD The sad thing is that everyone wants to be Spanish. The have done a good job brainwashing the Indians as well as the blacks of the country. I have met Hondurans with strong Indian features but if you tell them this it is like you insulted them. But if you say they look like a Spaniard its a complement. Our countries all have their problems and maybe we should think more about why these problems exist rather than just criticizing each other.

  • @EgbesuJuju2010 That is truth what you say, some people here have inferiority complexes, they look Indian and they dont want to admit. Is funny some blacks with english names, look down on blacks with spanish names. Here just if you have an arab name, you belong to the upper class, because arabs descendents have the economic power. But opressed like apartheid never, you find people of all races in all the social status. my father a poor mix raced man married a "white" middle class women.

  • @HondurasHD Its not about names as you do not often choose them for your self. However most Africans that have English names also have African names, this cannot be said of Spanish Blacks. But really it is about mindset. Whatever you are be proud of it. As for Arab names that colonization is no different from Spanish or English, religion is used to brainwash a people and steal their identity. But all the best to you , met a t of cool Hondurans so no hard feelings.

  • This is a bit misleading. I was in Gabon for 2 weeks in May '09. Libreville is rich in some parts by the beach but most of the people shopping there are the French expat community which is large especially after many fled from Cote D'Ivoire a few years to Gabon. Cameroon is the largest fruit producer in Africa and one of the best in the world.

Almost every capital in Africa there is one supermarket with imports for expats, diplomatic members, and elite.

  • @lionzion32 Don't mind them. I can show stores in America where most of the foods are imported from Africa. These stores are for foreigners, Africans mostly shop for their goods in the market. But Libreville trying to cater to some of it's expat community means something most be wrong with Gabon. All country's have their problems but this is not a problem necessarily, if Gabonese only eat foreign foods that would be a problem but I do not think that is the case.

  • I am so upset by what I just saw. What is wrong with these idiotic leaders that they can't see the value of producing their own food and bar companies that gouge them.

  • i represente gabon

  • Behind every African leader there are unseen hands at work practising their craft and keeping the masses ignorant, divided and an instilled inferiority complex.

Despite all these depredations theres change coming cos you cant hide the truth nor supress people indefinately

  • go and watch this video,

    just write at youtube:

    do what you want serendipity

  • To me, the problem is the people don't elect these leader really. They are puppets and still owned by the west or other interests. Also nothing is made by the poeple for the people, like why are there french products and sky high prices still? do you not call that some form of colonizing still or whatever you call it they do all over Africa. Trade is very unfair. There is no way Africa could not become a haven if it weren't for so many opportunists- and not the good ones who think of hummanity..

  • It is ignorant of some Africans to bring up European Colonialism as the cause of all their problems. When Europeans left Africa they left Africa is better shape then much of it is today.

Africans can only blame themselves for electing corrupt dictators who impoverished their own people.

  • You have a point. As long as you bring it, we are left with no argument. Sure the West is still greedy and preying over Africa. However, no one has destroyed more than the incompetent loonies who took power. The saddest part, is there is no country that can claim any success story. This makes all the struggle for independence a waste of time...

  • @lilsteller

you never left africa...okay, let's say, physically you left, but you are still controlling everything. reason why, if you don't agree with an african president policy, you do all you can to destabilise the regime, there are hundreds of examples, and France is champion of the wotld in 'coup d'etat' in africa, reunion, mayotte and all those ex-colonies. if you are ignorant of facts, it's better to shut up sometimes.

  • Controlling everything? Last I checked China has more say in African politics today than Europeans or Americans .

Africa is corrupt because of Africans, African leaders, African people, Africans okay? Don't blame your misery on others. And I will not shut up when you blame others for your own races troubles going on today.

  • if you don't know the facts, shut up..china didn't organize assassinations of lumumba, never destabilize Togo 's first regime, china didn't send troops in ivory coast to kill civilians, china never sent Bob denard and some mercenaries to destabilise Reunion, Congo, Mayotte etc. china doesn't have military bases in Africa. china nevre colonize african countries, ...China never killed 20 millions of congolese for the sake of rubber, china never invaded Irak...so shut the hell up, you moron.

  • @coolserge72

But China has funded and propped up Burma, North Korea, The Khmer Rouge. Enacted and annexed both Tibet and East Turkestan etc. And is also in support of the Sudanese government in spite of their attrocities, so yeah, don't look the other way on them while your counting the west's faults abroad.

  • Oh does it?for your information china doesnt give two flying monkeys about africas internal affairs. All they do is invest ,get raw materials and move on,no The west understands that 10 years from now china will be a diff. place that's why it keeps going on about human rights abuses by chinese govt.

  • @lilsteller

"Don't blame your misery on others."

Look, if the US and Europe required that the oil companies make sure that the money from oil revenue gets to "the people," then that would probably help out tremendously. So in fact, YOU ARE COMPLICIT in this corruption when you fill up your car tank with gasoline.

And yes, you should feel guilty about that.

    BITCH.

  • iam not from gabon and fuck the bbc they r the ones destroying africa.

  • y everyone is blaiming other ppl and countries and not gabon.

  • he is ass, for sure!

  • ALIBEN BONGO ONDIMBA, ASSASSIN!!! QUI REGNE PAR L'EPEE PERIRA PAR L'EPEE mec...

  • At least Omar Bongo did not invade aother countries like your British tyrant looking for weapons of mass destruction,go home and report on the melt down in your country, live Africans alone they dont need your white ass.

  • That reporter has a really arrogant, n'est-ce pas?

  • why do u say that.. I dont find him arrogant

    il été surpris..c'est tout!!

  • The BBC are biased. I do not trust their reporting. Researching "official" websites, many claim that Bongo was a terrible thief but he did let "sufficient" funds reach the population to prevent revolt. I would appreciate hearing from a Gabonese about this. Your people should have a decent standard of living compared to most other African nations. Has there been much progress and improvement to infrastructure? Thanks.

  • Got to love the BBC. This reporter is "shocked, shocked I tell you". He riffs on the "rubbish" architecture, the expensive cars, and the "slightly mad" importation of food from other countries is quite typical. Upscale supermarkets the world over import good food... this place clearly caters to the elite Gabonese or ex-patriots who can afford this stuff. Still, even if is biased reporting, is at least viewpoint and most people who post here seem to recognize that.

  • Corruption, in AFRICA????

who would have thought such a thing?

  • Shut the fuck up Europeans are the masters of corruption, greed and oppression

  • yeah right--Is that why we are capable of self-government and the average African political regime lasts three months?

don't be mad, you're just not as evolved as we are.

  • Typical BBC-work. Arrogant and with a "news-reporting" thats made up from the beginning...

By the way, the house which he´s not aloud to film, was not Bongos home..? Or... I heard that´s an officebuilding... Am I wrong?

  • Gabon may have its own advantage or disadvantages, but this BBC reporter was being arrogant, by whining and moaning about its problems in Gabon. Its like going to the host's country and insulting it. This is nothing but racist ranting.

  • ....look after the country and actually make the country a great example to Africa. Grow strong Gabon, kick the French out once and for all(i mean don't only buy from the and get more involved in the international market). Making frequent trips and closing big and big business around the world will pay off in the end. I was very happy to know people there never had a war of any kinda when you have so many ethnics living together in different religions is very fascinating. Wish the best to Gabon!

  • Met a guy yesterday and he was from Gabon, until then I just thought it was just another small african country that is messed up by european colonists and live in poverty with no hope or any short of organization at all. I was wrong! African must have a country to grow and serve as an example to all other african countries and I personally believe that Gabon is the closest one to it. Gabonese people must wake up and get organized and starte getting right politians in power. Ones that will.......

  • who invite this PIG in Africa? did we ask him his expertise? No am afraid. If his country never import or if the price are accessible to all, let him be there and we don`t wnat to see Him in Africa. Bye from an Ivorian

  • I dont know why Africans let this people in to their country to come and insult them..Africans wake up!

  • notice his arrogance..."Trash".

  • RIP Omar Bongo

  • Honte au Gabon honte a Bongo

  • lol french

we shoulda invaded those motherfuckers and coverted all to speaking American, goddamn heathens

  • who you calling heathans! what the hell is american trailer trash

  • are you african? i wasnt talkinga bout you, i was talking about the french

    who should have been invaded

    by americans

  • May the Soul of Omar Bongo rest in peace. He saved starving Biafrans during the civil war. Igbos of eastern Nigeria (former Biafra) are mourning the death of Omar Bongo.

  • 43 Pounds... That's more than what even us the Americans pay for something that tastes like shit anyways... LOL!

  • why do westerners "whites" enjoy the satiritical reporting of africa's woes? Questions...questions?

  • why do you hate openness and journalism

    u racist

  • merci monsieur bongo pour l'heritage de paix que tu laisse a ton pays.

  • Bien sûr, la paix de la lacheté et de la traîtrise...

  • Where is the "rupture" Sarkorzy promised.

Omar Bongo was the very first foreign head of state Sarkorzy welcomed at the Elysee when he became President.Gabon was equally the first African country he visited.

With the death of Bongo it will come as little surprise if his son becomes the next President for that is what the French are planning to do.

    This tells it all.

But the wind of change is coming soon and the Perpetrators of this inhuman policies will pay dearly.

    Long Live Africa

  • The problem of this country just like many other African countries is the continuous presence of France in this continent. They protect dictators and in return these African dictators sponsor their election campaigns in France.

  • sad indeed

  • the funniest thing is the guy with the shot gun.

  • LE WATCH AVEC SON GUN, il devait le Shooter mdr!

  • ta raizon, parlé slmen de gauche a droite

1 mllion tt le monde devé s' étre riche kome sé pas permi mé bn lé choz du pays on va enkor faire kmen lol

  • Ha ha ha... the guy forgot to mention that they give the price in EUROS at the cashier!!!! I lost almost 10 euros b/c I expected to pay in Gabonese currency... and got confused when I saw the Euro amount and gave the wrong amount and the cashier cashed it! When I challenged Mbolo, I made it clear and loud that to me Gabon was independent and they should have warned me when i entered Mbolo supermarket that it was made for those 12000 French people living there...

  • most Gabonese just don't have the "supermarket culture" if anything those supermaket are catering to the minorities of white expats not the locals.I have never ever seen a gabonese eat the damn fois gras *ew* .But the reporter is right when he says they would spent 50 mio on a building and the architecture will just be rubbish.I would take a mudhut over that crap they built in the capital ANYDAY!!!! .2/3 of Gabonese are also xenophobic as hell. SMH!

  • bitching??? I am not saying that real Libreville is not nice, but there's a huge difference between rich and poor. obviously someone in the usa is a little oversensitive, plus u cannot even compare the two countries.

  • word!

  • This video does not represent Gabon at all, nor does it represent Libreville. I spent six weeks overthere for a marketstudy for a local company. "Car Park of local supermarket" mbolo is only for expatriates and rich gabonese people. They should have taken the guy to Mont-Bouêt and Akébé. That is where you discover the real Libreville.

  • so ur u trying to say the city has a lot of poor pple in it

  • Comment removed

  • le Gabon n'est pas boure d'etranger c'est plutot la cote d'ivoire avec 26% qui a le deuxieme taux le plus eleve apres Dubai

  • Are you just some guy trying to show off that you know french? Because you obviousley are not using a french keyboard.

  • ...and this is why Westerners make fun of us. This country should have the same standard of living as Norway and still it is incredibly poor.

  • I am from gabon and i culdn't agree more with you. I dnt wanna get into gabonese or african politics cuz it gets me upset but reality is " the government need to stop using OUR money to buy mercedes and mansion" but u r 100% right

  • tell the queen to give us back our diamonds that they stoll.

  • Gabon will be the richest in Africa.

But it's necessary to industrialize more and more.

  • yaeh i really agree with that point that we dont really produce anything. well but that's cause people dont wanna wake up and the gorverment still dont wanna put over money in that sector. because we spend over 50 million dollars a year for foods and we dont even have the benefit of that. I meant that's is our delemmaoin gabon. my president, known as the best one in the world eventhough some stuffs happen like every human being must be puts argumentson agroindustrial.

  • that bbc's guy is fucking pissing me off! even if my country has problem we don't need him to remind them to us! what about the price of oil jumping here in the US??? ?? ?????

  • on veu vs aider vs dites tjr non! depuii 40 ans il est la ca change pas bon regles alors!
