  • when TV "came to town" I was 4 to 5 years old. And I fell for the movies. And my first "love" was Leslie Howard. Later to be considered (?) sort of mild and a bit effeminate. I don't watch TV now and IU am barely able to "connect", even less to "share", but some comment back there pushed me to. Now...nets. All kinds of birds. Lots of films not "gone with the wind". So, there it is. And thank you all.

  • she overacts my goodness it looks so phony...

  • Lionel Barrymore out shined clark gable lol offtop!

  • What a wonderful movie-with great actors -i'm so glad to have found it and thankful for your upload. I, too, have watched all of the Sherlock Holmes series w/ Ronald Howard that I could find

and do believe he was a good actor, like his father. Norma Shearer I adore-she was just so beautiful....thanks again, almpvnj

  • @almpvnj Glad you enjoyed the movie. I am amazed that so many people never realized that Ronald Howard from Sherlock series was the son of Leslie Howard. The resemblance is remarkable and while he was a good actor, he still lacked that little something extra his father had. Love them both. Happy New Year. KB

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for posting this early 30's classic! One of the best films of the decade. Helped make Clark Gable a star and won an Oscar for Lionel Barrymore. And one of Norma Shearer's best roles & performances. This is WAY better than the lackluster early 50's remake starring Wm Powell (though he's very good in one of his last films), Elizabeth Taylor & Fernando Lamas. You've MADE my day & my week! CHEERS, mate! :-)

  • @JubalCalif I am glad you enjoyed this little gem. I am a huge Leslie Howard fan and the added bonus of Gable and Shearer made it all the better. Due to his untimely death, we Leslie Howard fans, are limited to his somewhat small body of work.

You're so right! Due to Leslie Howard's sudden demise during WWII, the amount of films he made is way lower than many of the other stars of his time. What a gifted, intellgient & sensitive actor. Too bad his role wasnt' bigger in "A Free Soul". Thanks for your intelligent & articualte comments!

  • @JubalCalif Leslie Howard left us fans another gem, other than his body of work, in the form of his talented son, actor Ronald Howard, of the Sherlock Holmes series. In many episodes, you can clearly see his resemblance to his father. Unfortunately, his son is no longer with us.

How true! I watched a handful of episodes of that low budget British TV version of Sherlock Holmes a few yrs ago on DVD with Ronald Howard in the title role & he was not only even better looking than his dad but a fine actor in his own right. How sad that he too has passed away! MANY thanks for your informative comment! Happy New Year to you & yours! :-)

  • I was checking on Norma Shearer films and ran across this one. I didn't realize that Leslie Howard and Clark Gable had appeared in a film together prior to GWTW.

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • @iwantmycatsbackloser The Howard - Gable team up in this film was one fondly remembered by Howard, unlike his unpleasant memories of Gone With The Wind (not because of Gable). This is also another time that Howard and Shearer team up for a movie. Glad you enjoyed it.
