Totally agree with candyblue70- I am not ashamed to admit the opening theme brings happy tears of joy to my eyes as I recall one of my very happiest childhood memories
@LouishWaltz My oh my! Your page is so difficult read due to the wrong colours of the text, I gave up and came back here. Multicoloured text on a photographic background is bad and should only be used if the letters have a black outline.
I remeber the dodgy royal knockout and the channel 5 incarnation with kieth chegwin and frank bruno... You can't beat the original. I used to love wathing the internation version with my grandad on friday nights.
Times have changed, though for me,not always for the better. The seventies definitely had somethings better than today. Plymouth Ho.Was she Drake's bitch ?
It was one of the best programmes on tele......EVER!!
Miss it soooo much and just listening to the theme tune gave me tingles with excitement but also made me very sad as we don't have anything like this anymore.
All the other programmes that are like IAK are just not a patch on the real deal.
I would like to show my children what real fun and laughter is all about and what I experienced at their age.
Stuat Hall is the man. Lets start a campaign to get him back on the bbc presenting its a knockout again. TV needs to be entertaining and fun again.THanks for these clips they bring back many happy memories
A vanished world. People actually smiling, laughing and not taking themselves too seriously. Not seen that for years. How on earth did they pay the liabilities insurance? :D
This show taught me geography along with entertaining me. I learnt about the cities and medium sized towns by watching the football results on "Grandstand", and then I'd discover the smaller towns by watching "It's A Knockout".
Aside from that, this was classic, wonderful television. The public weren't the same sort of attention -seeking arseholes you see today on talent shows - they got into teams, got stuck in and gave me hours of viewing pleasure!
love this program, so many happy memories, just purchased a few DVDS on ebay along with a it's a knockout mug, so i can slurp my tea and watch at the same time, class xxx
Jeux Sans Frontières, the European version of this show was, in my opinion, much better content-wise. The oversized floppy-footed costumes that the contestants had to wear whilst racing along the obstacle courses, left me in fits of laughter. Stuart Hall used to wheeze his way through it all, too.
But, the home-grown version was still worth watching. Very, 'cheap and cheerful', in it's way. These small towns across the country, getting their little bit of national limelight.
I remember seeing myself on the telly on IAK in the early seventies,at the end,one of the crowd running with the team.Ashington versus Blyth, It was a great programme, but wasn't the same when they brought it back with bruno and chegwin.Stuart and Eddy were the best.
I remember one show, they had one team dressed as monkeys trying to unbalance the other team by hitting each other with the long arms.I was laughing so much my stomach hurt.
Thanks to the compensation culture that exists today, BRILLIANT game shows like IAK can never ever be brought back. I hope they're proud of themselves the bloody do-gooders. It's a knockout was the BEST show that was EVER shown on the BBC
Do you know, that clip at 1:15 reminded me of something. When he wasn't laughing like a drain, Stuart Hall used to talk an incredible ammount of bollocks!! Loved the show. Even saw it live at Peasholm Park in Scarborough. Happy days!!
@pw3uk You are absolutely correct. Two series were then purchased by the now defunct family channel with a welcome return with Stuart Hall redubbing the commentary
This program would not be allowed here in britain because of very stupid Health & Safety Rules. Somebody might get injured and claim damages from the bbc.
Haven't you all noticed how life in britain has become very dull, boring & serious since the 1980's and the arrival of Mrs Thatcher as PM (Still think Jim Hacker would have been much better!)
@MandysMinge I totally agree with your comment, and no the version channel 5 did was complete and utter rubbish. Luckily not many people could watch that channel at the time so it didn't really matter.
He did open a travel agents on Deansagate in Manchester and it really was called Sutart Hall International Travel (S.H.I.T) sadly it went bust I am sure it couldn't be anything to do with the name ;-) he he
it is still on in europe. When i was a kid the international version was better than the olympics to me family,it was on friday nights between 7 countries germany, france, holland,GB,italy, belgium, and CH..If i remember blackpool won the series tournament once, and it finished in 1982.The penguine game was the funniest ever!
Yep Friday nights in front of a warm fire. Much better than the Olympics! Jesus there are some seriously bad clothes and hair though! My god we really did look like that! LOL!
Stuart Hall, what a legend! Does anyone know if there's any truth in the legendary rumour that he opened a travel agents up in or near Liverpool called 'Stuart Hall International Travel' but abbreviated it to S.H.I.T on the hoarding above the shop? Dont disapoint me now, tell me it's true!

Notice in some of the earlier clips, if you will, the original presenter - none other than the late David Vine.

Can anyone tell me why the UK backed out of this fantastically funny show?
wembley05 3 years ago 2
I think they didn't want to contribute to the funding anymore.
I vaguely remember Wales taking part of it (as Cymru) and it being shown on S4C.
Anyone confirm?
