Think of it as something you can keep coming back to for many days, or watch in a single go (I know, it shocks me too when I hear of people watching these in one go!) without the inconvenience of having to look for other parts of manipulate a play list.
Great hack (I'm assuming he got the Boom Boom and Whispy Woods sprites from Carol). It's definitely nice to see another hack with an interesting enemy as the protagonist (like the Bob-omb and Pokey starring ones out a few months or years back). Considering how underused Rex is, it's a good idea.
Graphics and music seem good, and as you said, the overworld is nice. Only thing you may have missed... a few graphics clashes in some of the levels, like mixing Mario World and YI graphics.
