A funny Karan Casey story.....years ago, she did a concert at the Cedar(Minneapolis). I was a volunteer ticket-taker that night. I arrived early, looked around for my partner(two of us were supposed to be taking tickets that night). I saw this young, punkish-looking woman drinking a beer near the entry, and asked her if she was helping me that night. It was Karan, and she sweetly replied, "Ah, laddie, I'd love to help, but I've got to sing tonight"! What a class act! A real sweetheart...
the overwhelming feeling I have when watching and listening to this performance is that these are people who do what they do not for any monetary gain but primarily for artistic benefit.
I have no idea what they earn for their contribtution to so many peoples happiness and genral sense of an appreciation of the arts. But I am sure that it is much less than what some chav banker earns. Where is the balance in life?
Cannot wait for August for our Dublin Irish Festival when Karen will be performing along with Moya Brennan and other talented performers! Love this song!
Another song yet to dedicate to Crispin Glover when I go busking in the states! He is my legend as is Karan so yeah....xxx Karan and Crispin for eva! xxx
No.. i am a Karan too and I live in the UK. I believe my mother named me after an actress from many years ago. But your right as it is a popular name for indian males xx
Karan Casey again showing everything she can offer. Go Karan. Your voice is stunning. Could you imagine Karan Casey and Crispin Glover in a duet! OMG! THAT WOULD RULE!
Yer I know! I am the biggest fan of her and I have all her albums and I am going to c her next year ahhh!! Get more of her albums, they rule. Which ones do you have?
i don't have any of her albums, actually. i just stumbled upon this when i was looking at other stuff from the highland sessions. i've heard some of her music on myspace though!
Thanks a lot for sharing! Don´t know weather you noticed, but on 2:43 there´s a cut in the video. Nothing really major, but it just happens to happen on a quite nice detail ( the ending of the last strophe and a very nice accent from Nial Vallely)

Look forward to hearing more in the same vein.

That thing that Neil Vallely is playing is a concertina, and you're right, it adds another dimension to this.

What kind of accordian is that? I want to get one and electrify it.
erikstouffer 2 years ago
@erikstouffer
It isn't an Accordian - it is a Concertina. Specifically a 30 button Anglo Concertina.

is this a modern song? i'm american, and it sounds to me a little bit like a blues song in a minor key. it's pretty crazy, i like it a lot!
droftreeology 3 years ago 4
Yes, it's modern song, in fact it IS a blues song, just played on trad (Irish and American) instrument. It's also cracking good.
