  • i have not heard but a handful of dolphy solo records and some other as a sideman and seems like he's always playing something different than the band.

  • Wonderfull, beatyfull

  • It's marvelous to see Mingus in action with an antecipated Dolphy farewell. in Belgium, Both cats are Genius.

    zF - Rio de Janeiro

  • I sometimes think that Eric doesn't interact at all well with mingus and his/this band, his first solo for example bares no relation to what the other players are doing, having said this, I love his sensitive flute playing later on in the extended version of this video.

  • Dannie Richmond is a badass!

  • Heavenly, beyond art and talent... A day without this music is a sad day!

  • RTB Television broadcast in Liege / Luik ( Belgium) april 19 1964

The song is So Long Eric. Dolphy quit the group for a career in Europe. Sadly enough he died not long after that on june 29 1964.

  • Eric Dolphy is one of the all time great improvisators and his music interacts very well with Mingus'. Their co-work is some of my favorite in the wonderful universe that is music. I also appreciate Byards very unique swing. His time is interesting.
