Years ago, I discovered from a guy who did the sound at a Napalm Death concert that they used an octave peddle on the vocals , I was really disappointed, I naively thought that these guys just naturally sang like that! Although the music is cool too,Cannabis Corpse are one of those bands I like mainly for their album covers, which are truly psychedelic.
Well,while that may be true for Napalm Death,I almost gurantee you that most death metal bands are genuine and down to earth. Growling is actually quite easy when you know how to do it right.

He naturally sings like that. Not all death metal vocalists use effects like pitch shifting, etc.
