they are still available, you just have to find one. They don't make new guides on how to repair vacuum and electrical circuits for 1979 Lincolns. You might be able to find a CD that has the manuals on them, but I would recommend the actual books. The shop manuals are a 5 volume set and the electrical and vacuum is an add on...an extra book that shows all wiring and vacuum routing.
Bigblockelectra u sure it has absolutely every hose and wire? And for that matter is it available? And one more thing, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the continental and the town car different models?
@1979lincolncoupe When the car in this video was produced there were 3 basic models. The Continental, which was offered as a 2 door or a 4 door, the Continental Mark V, only offered as a 2 door, and the Versailles. The Town Car is the top line trim level that was offered on the Continental 4 door. You could also have a Town Coupe which was the same thing, only 2 door. The Town Car became its own model in 1981. The car in this video is a 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Car
@bigblockelectra I don't know ,man, I'm on my second '78 Town Car and I personally
have never seen a 4 door '78 Continental that was not a Town Car. Forget about Wikipedia, as the only source for their info' concerning that is a 1970 sales catalog. And of the Town Cars I've owned and seen the only thing that was consistent on them was the 4 doors as mostly everything else differed because of how the original purchaser optioned it out.
@43500534@43500534@43500534 You have only owned 2 of the 67,000 plus 4-door Continentals that were built in 1978. I'm sure you can google a picture of a base model Continental or maybe find one on cardomain. They pop up on ebay every once in a while.
Yes, I have found a lot of errors on car pages in wiki as anyone can edit entries....but don't always assume that what you read is wrong. Some of the information in the wiki entry is solid as I added it in myself, with information I have learned from books, ads, magazines, etc....as I did with the Buick Electra, erasing some of the garbage that other folks had put into the article.
@bigblockelectra I would like very much to see one as I would guess they are kind of rare. Ya, I've only owned two Town Cars over the last 8 years but I am always searching ads for them and have never came across one as you describe. I have to ask, what is in the Town Car "option package" ? And I have seen a lot of Town Cars optioned out in all different ways and can't figure out what that package would be. The only consistent thing I saw in them all was they all had four doors.
@43500534 i dont remember all of the options...things like power vent windows, passenger side recliner, premium bodyside moudlings, interior convenience lighting, upscale interior and door panels, etc....car manufacturers were a little more lenient back then on what they would build for people than they are today. That is why you might find some Town Cars with certain options like bodyside moudling or opera windows deleted...or maybe a different type of vinyl roof.
@bigblockelectra I have the build sheet from my first Lincoln. Got it from under the headliner when it split a seam. I will have to find it and see if it's mentioned on there.
Attention all lincoln fans! I have a 79 town coupe with severe rat damage in the engine! Its sat for 2 years now untouched and I only just pulled it in! I need a wiring diagram of a Lincoln 400 v8 motor ASAP! Im extremely desperate! Please take a video or pictured clearly showing every wire and hose and where they lead to! Please! Save my cars life!
@1979lincolncoupe buy the electrical/vacuum manual on eBay. I bought mine for 15 bucks or something like that. It is a large book with large color diagrams. It is too big to scan on a conventional 8.5 x 11 scanner.
It is Lincoln paint code 37 "Ice blue metallic" which was an extra cost option and was only available on the Mark V and Continental, not the Versailles. The vinyl is Valino grained, and is Wedgewood blue, along with the leather interior.
After ~1983, yes. However, from the late '60s through the early '80s the Town Car, Town Coupe and Mark series were all models on the Continental nameplate.
It also says "Town Car" on the Fender and on the interior above the glove box. Continental was the model and Town Car was just the option package. Just like a Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance. There was also another package called the "Williamsburg"
Ah yes, the nice solid Lincoln sound as it drives by. Very unmistakable from that era of FOMOCO cars! I also owned a '78 Town Car, mine was in yellow with a tan leather interior. I was the second owner in 1997. The 460 drank like a pig at 13 MPG, but it was the best and most comfortable highway car I ever travled in, and I drove all the way from NJ to TX!
I mean available still
