  • A loving, sexy, emotive and arousing song sung with passion.

An exceptional post!. Personally, though, I enjoy hers, Ester, even the version by Diane Schuur

    Thanks for this post, too!

  • That's not because I am Brazilian but I was looking for different versions of this song and i could not find any other that could overcome this one. I love Sarah, Billie and the all the jazz greatest but this one from Marisa Monte is definetely the best one. Although she is a pop singer, Marisa can sing jazz like a real diva. I am sorry conservative jazz fans, but let's hear it for Marisa!!!!!.

  • Have you seen Rodolfo Santana's channel? It looks like Marisa singing Speak Low with a high school jazz band. The hair isn't as long and the arrangement isn't the same but there are elements or "musical fragments" or "licks" that sound almost identical including her "scat" type singing at the end. Also, have you seen the version where she sings Speak Low slowly at first and then it seems to go into double time with a latin beat? What a stunningly beautiful woman, anyway.

  • marisa the best,the best...

  • ACHO QUE NEM A MARISA MONTE TEM NOÇÃO DA GRANDIOSIDADE QUE É ISSO!!

  • Marisa Monte's interpretation of "Speak Low" is simply the best!

And this said by an admirer of Billie, Sarah and Judy's...

I simply agree with "meireanta", this is so far the version, "a versão definitiva".

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Speak low when you speak love...

  • as outras q me desculpem, mas essa versão da Marisa é definitiva

  • very sexy..sensual..

  • excelente!!

  • Love it. The Venice, the couple and music are absolutely beautiful. Thank you very much.

  • This version is sung slow and in a romantic tone like it should be, it's such a great song. The melody was written by Kurt Weill and lyrics by Ogden Nash lyrics. It was introduced by the singer Mary Martin in the 1943 musical comedy "One Touch Of Venus" which ran for over 500 performances on Broadway. After the show the song went on to become one of the most recorded jazz standards.

There are many versions on youtube, Barbra Streisand offers a good one.

  • I've been looking for a better version of "Speak Low" than this sang by Marisa Monte. I've heard Sarah's, Judy's and also Billie's version and I'm obied to say: Marisa's is the best.

  • marisa monte é a diva da MPB!

  • Lovely version; beautiful voice, and perfect background. I would like to hear more from Marisa Monte. Who has some info about her?

    Wow!! . . . jenny

  • Jenny, try the first Marisa album "Marisa Monte". I'm shure you will enjoy it.

  • Marisa's version is just different and liric. God version like Vaughan, Holiday....Peace, please....rsrsr

  • very impersonal performance! why?? is such a deep, erotic song, definitely not meant to be sung like that... i much prefer esther ofarim's version. you can feel something there

  • Oh, my Gosh, you know nothing of music. Esther Ofarim's version is cheap 60s pop. Over the top, comercial and tacky. No wonder you don't get Marisa's version, that is reflective of Billie Holiday's understated (not impersonal) style. Go study some jazz history before voicing such stupid opinions!

  • everyone has their own opinion and taste in music. i can have mine as much as you can have yours. try to be respectful of diversity. i've listened to different versions of this song, the one i like best is not uploaded, but between ofarim's+monte's i like ofarim's best. these sounds i like best, just accept the fact.

i enjoy holiday's version greatly. Conclusion: taste in music is much subjective. keep it in mind before you call names on people's opinions. not everyone has to share ur views

  • But your opinion is uninformed and uneducated. Sure, it's part of the diverse opinions out there. But it's trashy and uninformed. It reflects your soul.

  • Look i disapprove of fighting over internet. you can say whatever, i can say whatever, no big deal to me. still you wont change my taste and certainly you have no idea of my education or anything about me. it's very shallow and lacking evidence to infere that this comment reflects my soul, but hey.

the song has a beautiful melody and the lyrics are so poetic and this version didnt touch me as much.

you may continue being bitter and rude, i'll just won't bother more; i do have a life.

  • Don't worry darling, I'm sure Shakespeare would be proud with Marisa's song ;)

  • @ElizaMogha its ethical question here? or maybe u are critical to everyone / can u sing ? affffeee

  • y did u use the sample photos? lol
