look, guys, i'm sorry, but our greenday fandboy has a point here. corelli really isn't singing to great on this recording. i mean i love the guy but this is just not nice to listen to. he could have said it in a more sophisticated way of course...
sorry guys, that's my opinion and there are better versions of the great "adeste Fideles". in my school we sang this every year and i loved it. you have the opinion, the version is great and perfect but my opinion is, that i know better versions. that's all. Here in Germany we have freedom of opinion, have you heard of it before?
Of course there can be a better version of pretty much everything on earth. But to call Corelli a shit....He's been on much sides the greatest tenor of the last 100 years.
I thought, here you can express his freedom of opinion and that I made, there are better versions. that is my opinion and if you that's great finds, please.
@ GreenDay2601 MA TACI QUELLI COME TE NON SONO DEGNI DI STARE NEMMENO IN TERRA...OFFENDERE UN TENORE DEL CALIBRO DI CORELLI DICENDO MERDA...MA SARAI TU UNA GRAN MERDA IGNORANTE...NON SAI COSA HAI DETTO STUPIDO TONTO
@GreenDay2601 How charming your vocabulary is, and so fitting for the subject. With such a command of English, I am surprised you bother at all with Latin, or Castellano.
Sorry, another note: There are NINE verses, and there is a video here on youtube that contains all nine, and in the original, each end of each verse is used as the beginning of the next verse. I'll look that up and post it here if you want.
It looks like you did a real study on this, and I think your analysis is correct; that it was written by John Wade in 1743. I can not any reference to the prior to that.
Can you tell us a little about the recording itself this is taken from? He sounds quite good with an instrument having the degree of resonance of the organ used here. The choral sections sound almost as if they may have been done separately.
It was not written by Francis Wade, he just wrote some English lyrics for it.

@GreenDay2601 Your opinion is obviously resptectful, but you chose the worst way to express it. The great Corelli doesn't deserve it.
PS. Maybe you should improve your english before insulting one of the greatest singers in history.

I ADORE this Corelli's rendition of this famous sacred Christmas piece. I have it on the CD Songs and Arias by EMI.

Esta es una muy buena versión de este. ¿Has escuchado el Coro Croata hacer esto? Está en croata, y luego el latín. Voy a publicar, si lo desea.
