In 1970 Johnny had an eye accident and he was obliged to stay many days in a dark room..his view was affected and he was more afraid to take risks. he did not qualify in 1970 and organized a big fiesta on the boat he rent with a little formula 1 cake ..He sat on this cake and sais : "this is the last formula one i put my ass into"..His biography ,"mes excès de vitesse", is a beautiful book of his life in french..
You can also see him on the film I posted about the 1970 Monaco GP. It shows Servoz in qualifying (Tyrrell March 701), just before he retired from racing (he did not start the race).

Matra sound in a few videos (try also
Matra Sport 670/680 etc.)
I recall it at Monza main straight and at Paul Ricard testing in Nov.1973/74 if memory serves.
Loads of memories arising!

Incredible video : the big surprise was french driver SERVOZ-GAVIN , who was replacing STEWART and made the 2nd qualifying time.
He was a leader for only 4 tracks and stopped because of suspension problems..I love this guy ( who died last year )
