are you high? A figure eight should never be used as defensive. A strong blow to the side could knock the staff out of your hands, or hit you due to the uncontrolled swing of the figure eight.

it seems to me that if you were trying to hit someone, you would have very good power holding the bo staff with one hand. I cant help but wonder how he'd do if someone he was fighting had a staff too . one block , and conceivably , that one handed technique could go up flames real quick. the shaolin technique emphasizes both hands on the stafff ( or as close to it ) as possible. im not blasting the guy, im just asking questions.

I realy wish that i had gotten a small steel Bo instead of a giant White Oak Bo. Its heavy, long and when i finally get momentum, it hits the ground and bounces towards my head. Thank god for fast reflexes.

This can be used as an offense. If you learn how to do figure 8s correctly, you can use it for several things:

1) blocking attacks from other bo staffs, swords, daggers, etc.

2) if you get enough speed and momentum, it can be a devastating offensive maneuver.

3) As "mlbrack0928" said, it has a certain amount of "badass-ness" to it, as well as a certain intimidating appearance. This could be used to disarm a potentially dangerous situation.

Ive been doing this for 10 years and there are still hand motions i cant figure out. Its not as easy as it looks. you can really rock someones face with a bo staff. Its better to give a beating over using blades and or bullets.

The figure eight itself isn't too hard it just clicks eventually, but the stuff at the end is a bit more tricky. Its just for showing off really though, a simple lunge would go straight through it, but I guess this "extreme" stuff is more of an aesthetic art form now so its all good.

yeah, the figure eight itself isn't that hard at all. I've managed to do it using only my right hand, but I can't do it using both my hands or only my left hand '^^
