Its not like its made of tissue paper. These little planes are more rugged than most people realize.Believe me when they were being designed the engineer kept in mind the abilities of the average pilot.
everybody gets scarred when landing in a short field and bumpy terrain here in el salvador if you dont approach at 50 in a cessna 152 and do no land full flaps you crashed thats in short fields over here but in ilopango MSSS airport or comalapa MSLP they are long nice runways the best in central america
I love nerd pilots that like to bitch on forums. He landed and he's alive - what's the big deal? It's his airplane, he can do what he wants - besides that dude is old school and probably knows more than everyone here. TZR out
Speed looks good to me. It looks faster because the proximity to that tree. He did a power on approach, carrier like landing which is the best for that short field. Some cameras have no image stabil and shows all bumps and sudden movements.
I beg to differ on most of your comments. The trees indicated very little wind, his approach speed for that class of aircraft was too high. You must stick to the recommended approach speed of this aircraft, about 65 to 75 KTS.He should have made a fly by, but not exceeding 90 KTS to see the condition of the strip. He should have requested a weather report from the nearest reporting station. He came in too low, and too fast, and he clearly used brakes, which is forbidden for this kind of landing.
I'm sorry, I must have missed the shot of the airspeed indicator that tells you he's flying the approach too fast. And are you seriously gonna tell me that if you're landing on a 1000 foot strip you're just gonna let the plane roll out? Soft field brake usage is perfectly safe if done carefully, believe me. How do you know he didn't overfly the field before? How do you know he didn't pick up the AWOS from a nearby field? Before you talk shit, have at least some proof that you're right.
@RockMancuso agreed and you can't even get the IAS off looking out the window. I'm not sure about the states (or wherever you guys are from) but in Canada we do a lesson called "illusions crated by drift" and in any wind it basically means you can't determine the speed from outside the aircraft. (sound is different) but still agreed nicely called
@GreatBigSmellyFart He knows about the percentage factors of wet or dry grass etc. He has just been teaching me about it in uni. He is also a CAA examiner
@GreatBigSmellyFart It really sounds like you are just spouting off random pilot sounding jargon that doesn’t even apply, but mostly I think you like to hear the sound of your own voice spouting off to make you feel smarter than you are. Become a CFI and then you can critique other peoples flying.
This was obviously not an emergency landing. At :42 seconds in the plane is turning toward a garage, that has an EXTRA wide door on it. Doesn't it appear to be an airplane garage? There lots of housing developments built in areas where people fly into their yards and park in a personal hangar.
I thought he looked like he had a really high angle of attack, slow and maybe an emergency landing. Thought of engine out came to thought. Oviously not
Camera made it look way worse than it was, I have made greasers on a short grass strip and played back the camera and you would think that it would have required an airframe inspection!!!!!
wow id say that was a reasonable landing, maybe you jsut dont fly very often in cessnas that land in uneven ground before, when you land on even ground with a cessna, its often just one bump, and then its over
It looked good to me.
