  • This guy failed at being Shockwave. But I mostly blame Michael Bay for not even giving Shockwave a good role in the film.

  • I want that voice

  • FRANK WELKER IS #1. THERE IS NO ONE ELSE.

  • Frank Welker is a God. He's the one and only God of Voice-Acting. Out of a thousand and more voice actors across the world and across time, Welker will always remain #1.

  • I love how Frank gets into the role when he records his voice!

  • THE GAME

  • "I`ve done alot of different characters" Understatement of the year...Mr Welker`s resume could circle the world twice

  • @scallywag86 IF you go onto the IMDB...Welker has the largest number of credits by a LARGE margin.

  • Welker Voice is legendary and awesome! But i think he should sounds lower.

  • I can do a perfect impression of Grindor (Frank Welker voices him)! I am serious!!!!!!

  • I can do an impression of Bumblebee... just kidding lol

  • Frank Welker has been called a voice god and I certainly understand why. I am sickened that Michael Bay didn't realize his talents in the first movie. Fortunately we got Frank for ROTF - as Soundwave no less (and he kicked!!!)

  • no way... welker is much more schemeing and sinister.. hugo's is bullyish and unintelligent

  • @aaronrus very true. I will admit each one has their merits though. Hugo portrayed a very brutal and barbaric version of Megatron in the ever expanding character. However...Mr Welker is the king. He voiced half the cast of G1 by himself and was the first to be...and still might be the last

  • @aaronrus I 100,000 PERCENT AGREE.

  • @aaronrus Your kidding.

  • @mac19971 kidding about what

  • @aaronrus Megatron's a big guy. And for a serious badass villain Frank Welker gives him a goofy accent? Starscream's game voice from Revenge of the Fallen should have switched with Megatron. And Frank Welker should have voiced Starscream.

  • It is a disgrace and utter disrespect that Welker isn't Megatron in the live action films. Fuck you Michael Bay!

  • The hell are you talking about?

Frank is talking about when he first got the role of Megatron back in 1984 for the G1 cartoon, not about making a new voice for Megatron this awful game.

  • I share your disgust for Michael Bay. The guy actually had the audacity to tell Frank Welker that he wasn't "good enough" to do Megatron anymore.

It's like Bryan Singer being hired to do a Star Wars film and telling James Earl Jones that he isn't good enough to do Darth Vader anymore.

  • @xpander2k Agreed. Welker still sounds awesome!

  • All Frank would have had to do is drop his voice deeper to sound more visceral and angry, which he could very well do. **shrugs** He's not one of the most prolific and in-demand voice actors for nothing.

  • spider1974 your a dumb ass

    listen to welkers voice

now picture movie megatron voiceing him

michael bay is right IT SOUNDS TOO CARTOONIE

    hugos is WAY BETTER

  • Yeah, there was NOTHING cartoonish about having Devastator with balls, having the Wayan's Bros Transformers, having a Gremlin Transformers (which humps a girls leg) not to mention having Optimus Prime say "Punk-ass Deception". Yeah, that's definitely high-brow entertainment meant for responsible adults. Gimme a break. People making excuses for Michael Bay's insanity is the longest running joke in captivity. Cullen and Welker sound exactly the same if not better. Michael is is an idiot.

  • Actually, the line "Punk Ass Decepticon" was said by Ironhide. Just fyi, I have the movie on DVD.

  • I agree that Frank Welker could has easily adjusted his voice. The thing is, he didn't need to. Welker did the voice for Megatron on the game based off of the first movie and he sounds even BETTER as Megatron as he did before. Not only that, I'm sure Frank Welker doesn't come cheap. Why spend all that money contracting him and not use him to his full potential? You or I could have done what they had hm do. They gave him like what 3 lines in the last movie? C'mon.

  • Imitating Dr. Claw is not hard at all(which is the foundation for Soundwave's voice and what Welker used in the movie). I can easily do it. You or I could have done the same thing and they would have paid us a whole lot less money. A Vocoder costs like what 80 bucks? You telling me that Mr. Deep Pockets Michael Bay couldn't spring for one to make Soundwave complete? It's just sad to see our treasures from the 80's violated in this way.

  • @xpander2k

Clearly you don't know much about the Death Growl tecnique Welker uses when he does Dr. Claw or Soundwave. Anyone can growl, which is true, but to be able to do it for hours like Welker can requires tecnique or else you will rip your vocal chords apart.

Also, I heard it was Frank's wish they kept the vocoder out because after all the effort in growling (it's quite exhausting I might add) the voice get distorted beyond recognition

  • @VoiceActorDreamer : Soundwave had like 3 or 4 lines in the whole movie. What is your point here? It wasn't like Soundwave had to engage in some long dissertation. In fact, even on the cartoon Soundwave never said more than a few lines at a time. Since I never mentioned anything about doing the grumble for an extended period of time so again I ask, what are you talking about?

  • @xpander2k Retakes, redos are some reasons. Welker also did the voice of Devastator in the movie and even though he only had about three or four yells he still had to record for possibly hours. He mentioned once in an interview that the sound people weren't happy and kept telling him to go louder.

Normal growling like the one you're reffering to when you kill your throat sounds ALOT weaker and less deep also. And finally, Welker is part of fanbase demand, vocoded or not, it's still Frank.

  • True. And from what all I've seen and read, he LOVES doing Megatron's voice. Add to that the fact that one of his best buds Peter Cullen is in it, you KNOW he would say "Yes!"

**shrugs** But, such is the way the silver-screen money machine runs, after all...

  • @xpander2k Frank Welker right now is THE premiere voice actor. All of his real peers (Mel Blanc, Daws Butler, Don Messick, June Foray, etc...) are either deceased, or retired.

  • @Originalman320 actually, june foray's not retired. She's still working in animation (she reprised her role as Granny on The Looney Tunes Show, and she does other characters on shows like Chowder, Adventure Time, and the Garfield Show).

  • @owlie14 Really? I had actually thought that she retired, considering that she's in her 90's.

  • Frank Welker is rumored to do the voice of Soundwave but not MEGATRON....

  • imdb has him as the voice of Soundwave for the new movie

  • i know i made a video about it.....you're a bit late broh

  • the main original voice are in transformer 2 movie frank welker as devastor and soundwave susan blu as arcee and peter cullen retain optimus prime

  • Frank Welker is the best Megatron ever. G1 Forever!

  • yes!!!

  • "DECEPTICONS RULE FOREVER! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"

    -G1 Megatron

Man, you gotta love the way Frank Welker does Megatron's voice.

  • Yay its really pissed me off when they did hugo weaving instead of Frank in the movie.

  • It appears you don't realize, Frank did Megatron's voice for years on the original Transformers cartoons. It's great to see he's involved again, and I'm glad to hear he's doing Soundwave's voice in TF2.

  • Where the hell is Megatron's bazooka?

  • Glad to see Frank was brought back after all!

  • cant belive they regected him

  • Megatron as a Cybertronian jet was a cool idea. A tank would have been boring; plus, Brawl was already a tank. Starscream was a jet, but a normal Earth jet. At least Megatron demonic looking. Also, I agree that they made Optimus look weaker than he actually was. He is just as powerful as Meagtron.

  • Here's what Michael Bay said in the commentary for the movie:

"They [the fans] wanted me to go with Frank Welker for Megatron. To me, Frank Welker-great voice artist, but I felt his voice sounded too cartoon to me and I didn't think I could tell Frank to change it for this movie, it just wouldn't be right."

Bay, there's a big difference between a cartoon voice and a character voice. But, yo, you never worked with voice-actors proir to this movie, so I don't expect you to understand that.

  • I'm surprised that they didn't give David Kaye a shot once Welker was rejected. If you tweak and warp Welker's voice just right, he would have been able to fit perfectly into this beastly and savage incarnation of Megatron. I have to be honest, Megatron with Welker's voice did sound pretty cartoony in the game.

  • look what people seem to forget with the fight with Megs and Prime is that they was in the city with people around Prime would have been worried about them. as to the fight in the orginal movie where he fought in autobot city

  • This makes me sad for what could have been in the motion picture.

  • The original Megatron voice is the best

  • I wish he was in the movie

  • It would be cool if Nimoy did Galvatron in Transformers 2 if Megs is resurected as Galvatron.

  • I agree!!! frank shoue have been in the movie too bay is a jackass

  • Frank Welker did sound a little too old to reprise Megatron for the movie, but at least the video game was something else.

  • Who cares really, i thought he sounded awesome. Megatron isn't exactly suppose to be a kid, he is the leader of the Decepticons that can even PWN G1 Scorponok just by spitting on him. My bet is that he will be in Transformers 2 as the Allspark powered Galvatron

  • frank welker is up to the task

  • (\__/)

    (='.'=)

    (")_(")

  • ....MEGATRON IS THE SHIT... That's thee only villian that constantly kicked his opponents ass. BESIDES... the other villian Agent Smith in MATRIX

  • Frank Welker is amazing! I love the passion he puts into creating Megatron. Thanks for posting this.

  • thats megatron!!!! why didnt they hav that in the movie!!!!

  • Frank Welker's natural voice sounds like Freddie from Scooby Doo still. After all, he also played him....and Wheelie and Soundwave.

  • Zoinks!

  • Be surprised that Shaggy's voice actor also performed in G1 Transformers.

  • who was that? jinkies! eherm...

  • Jinkies is Velma's phrase while Zoinks is Shaggy's. You will have to discover that on your own.

  • oh yeah thanks! I got the punchlines mixed up hehehe...

  • weaving and cullent had little to no media coverage as megatron and optimus.. all the attention went to megan fox and shia labouff. peter cullen and hugo weaving deserved as much. Hugo Weaving was their biggest name actor. If Weaving wasn't going to get any attention, just give it to Welker.

  • Hugo Weaving had no goddamn right being in the movie. He put no effort or passion into his performance. He sounded like one of Megatron's slower, dumber henchmen. EAT POOP, MICHAEL BAY!

  • Oh grow up, already. Enough bitching, the movie's out, Welker wasn't in it - SO QUIT WHINING!

Weaving did great, his voice (though digitally altered) fit the monstrous new look of Megatron. Welker's voice has aged too much to fit the new version, but I think the voice he does here would be killer if they did Galvatron in Transformers 2, sounding all crazy, hurt, and stuff.

  • thank you!

  • Ah, yes...those who defend a seasoned voice actor passionate for the role are accused of "whining", but those who defend a bland, indifferent performance from a "name" like Weaving are the only clear-thinkers on the web. A performance, by the way, that was so weak and ineffectual the sound team felt they had to artificially beef up 99.9% of his delivery.

    Like, whatevah, BloodLust.

  • yeah....ummmmm Hugo doesn't have a giant robot voice pale, everyone execpt Optimus, Ratchet, Ironhide, and Jazz were just voiced by the actors. The decepticons needed it, the whole monster look, hello? you got to pay attention to how directors and creators look at there version of these robots, not make them just like someone else did it. Wheres the creativity in that. WEhy do you think Bugs Bunny looked different when Tex and Clampet drew him.

  • agree all the way, all the decepitcons had a monsterous look to them. They had to have voices that matched the look. Cullen was in it becasue you can't really get away with changing him, and he didn't change that much. Everyone else did. And Hugo was my favorite voice in the whole movie. I like Frank, but Hugo I think is a little better.

  • bah, "I smeeelllll you boy!!!" has nothing on any of Welkers great Megatron quotes from the 86 movie. His husk is distinct. "DIEEEE AUTOBOTSSSS!!!" And I like the new movie better than anything.

  • @MrKnoxville351: Amen. Megatron had much better dialogue in the olden days, and seemed to think more than blindly break stuff. IMHO.

  • Mm, I dunno.. Megatron in the live-action looks almost like Skeletor rather than, well, Megatron. He doesn't really have a face anymore. I think it's hard to be as afraid of something more of a faceless monster with less of a mind than the very real megalomaniac.

  • Indeed... one thing that always made Megatron stand out compared to other cartoon villains of the day was that he was a megalomaniac and espoused a dangerous philosophy, but he was never insane. He knew what he was doing. Can't say the same 'bout Galvatron after he got tossed into the lava, though.

  • i agree that his voice is a bit weaker and that it doesnt sound like 20 years ago, but i still think he should be in this movie instead of weaving, he deserves it

  • i like the fact that Welkers voice is a little aged, it makes him sound like a 4 million year old Decepticon leader whos seen millions of battles. That voice alone commands the respect of the entire Decepticon Army.

  • Frank Welker, the ONLY one we Decepticons call MEGATRON.

  • well, you never know, maybe they'll put Galvatron in the sequal and let Frank voice him. That could be equally satisfying

  • Yeah, but it wouldn't be Galvatron's voice. Leonard Nimoy did excellent as Galvatron in the original movie, but Welker's Galvatron in the series sucked. I love Welker's Megatron in the original movie, but I can hear that his voice now is not what it was 20 years ago.

  • HHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JOYGASM!!!!!!

  • Frank's still the man !

  • the voice IS a little rusty since 20 years, but BY GOD it still gives me the shivers just like when I was 6

  • AHHH, Frank Welker I love you, the new TF movie just wasn't the same without you as Megatron.

  • I agree. Welker is the primary reason I like Megatron. I wish He would voice more villains.

  • Welker is the Man, and I think Michael Bay is an idiot, saying that his voice has deteriorated over time, well it's sounds GREAT to me!!!

  • People age duh. What was Bay thinking? As i said before Welker IS MEGATRON

  • As good as Weaving was, Welker should've done the voice of Megatron.

  • He sounds like Welker anyway almost didn't you think ?

  • Not at all.

  • Oh ! OK !

  • in some scenes, yes

  • Weaving was okay but he ain't no Frank Welker, man. I don't know what Mike Bay and co. were talking about when they said his voice sounded too aged. After hearing this it's pretty obvious he's still got it. And if they think his voice sounds a bit aged, would that make Megatron sound too cartoony or more sinister in reality?

  • Yeah, why shouldn't he sound aged - he's millions of years old, even older than Optimus! Let's hope he gets to do Soundwave in the sequel.

  • I agree but then I'm glad that Frank wasn't cast. Megatron was only in the movie for like 20 minutes anyway. I wdould have been disappointed to have Frank voice Megatron and he only had like 10 lines to the most. That would be like giving me cake with no icing. Frank Welker IS MEGATRON.

  • I agree. Best to just forget about the live-action and move on. Even though Peter Cullen returned.

  • He made my hair stand, lol.

  • While I like Megatron's voice, for the movie they needed something more menacing, and I think Weaving was ok.

  • And Welker isn't menacing? I imagine thhat the Devil's voice would be Welkers

    "Welcome to Hell, human!!"

  • Crazzy, yes. Evil, yes. But you gotta admit Hugo Weavings booming voice was sweet.

  • yes, i agree

  • hmmm..... he does sound... different.. now..

  • What website is this from? It's not at the game's website.

  • theres only one real Megatron, Welker.

  • Frank Welker still sounds great as megatron

  • I didn't like Frank's voice at first but it really grew on me. It's awesome that he did the game voice.

  • right there proves he still has it, that is MEGA F'N TRON!!

  • Frank Welker is a god at voice overs here's hope that he can voice soundwave in the second movie

  • They should hire him for the DVD!!! So that there's an option to watch as his voice is megatron in the movie!!! What do you guys think?

  • I do not if that can work.

  • I like that idea

  • I love the Idea. The End Dialogue between Prime And Megatron NEEDS Frank Welker.

Seriously, I would pay $20 More than the normal DVD price. to have a Frank Welker voiced Megs for the DVD.

  • Same here, I would pay big bucks for them to add an *option* on the DVD for Weaving voice or Welker voice. Oh my gosh, how do I contact the studio and tell them before they start printing the DVDs?!? @__@

  • good idea!!!

  • That's not a bad idea, someone should try making a petition to ask Steven Spielberg & Michael Bay if they can do that in the couple years ala Anniversary type release some time soon.

  • I don't think his voice is "too aged" as Micheal Bay put it. It would have been prefect, IMO.

  • the great Frank Welker, it's sad he couldn't do the movie Megatron.

  • Frank rules

  • "Nimoy as Galvatron was a vast improvement, and Weaving as Megatron will give him a more regal, calm, calculating voice." - Megatron was not regal, calm or calculating, you're argument doesn't fit, Megs was crazy, brutal and sadistic.

  • this was BEFORE i heard Megatrons movie voice.

didn't think of THAT did you?

    of course not.

  • ugh thats how he should have sounded like in the movie

  • Hmm, this guy thinks right. I agree with the idea of his voice sounding pained. If i tried that rasping though, I would go into a coughing fit.

  • Why the FUCK did frank welker have to even audition to do the voice for megatron in this shitty game? He's the fucking primarch

  • he's so awesome.

  • Just listen to him in the movie ;) JUST WOW!! Nimoy as Galvatron was perfect too but Megatron is Megatron!

  • Nimoy was good but he hated transfromers..so I've heard..

Welker is Megatron now and forever just as Peter Cullen is Optimus Prime both are NOW AND FOREVER those characters

  • I believe you have that mixed up with Orson Welles who hated transformers and couldnt even remember the character

  • same just like Sean Connary will be forever known as Draco the dragon from dragonheart to me

  • The asthmatic voice of Megatron in the serie its what made Megatron sooo cool :D But I understand that the voice of Frank Welker his not what it was before in the old series. But still awsome!!

  • Looking forward to hearing Welker's Voice in the Game. I only wished they kept him as Megatron for the Transformers Movie instead of the other guy. Bummer.

  • Frank Welker as Megatron FTW!

  • Well, Frank Welker is going to recieve a lot payment on this game since video games make more money than movies.

  • "I love doing megatron" hahaha..

  • I actually LOVE Megatron. My top 3 Decepticons. Starscream's at Number 2, and Soundwave is at Number 3.

  • props on the voice, but i can't believe Michael Bay butchered the transformers so badly. this is a sad day indeed.

  • then go somewhere and cry about it. I hope you never have any real issues to deal with in your life.

  • way to try and sound tough on the internet, kid.

  • Megatron Is AWESOME! Thanks Frank Welker :)

  • I'm going to love the new movie. Optimus Prime vs Megatron. I have a clip of that fight and i uploaded. So if you want to see it then just go to my channel. It won't ruin the movie for you. It will just make you even more pumped. Optimus Prime vs Megatron.

  • Oh man, I actually got goosebumps when I heard that voice again. Awesome.

  • Frank, thank you for bringing such passion to your work on Megatron. Michael Bay disrespected a legend. You'll always be the one & only true Decepticon leader.

  • how is it disrespect?

that voice just wouldn't fit this version of the character, but you're not gonna listen,so COMPLAIN AWAY!

  • Michael Bay changes whatever he doesnt like in films. I mean Bumblebee is supposed to be a buggy not a camero! Frank Welker IS megatron. This new voice doesn't sound right with the old optimus voice

  • Volkswagon didnt want to be involved in such a violent movie. You have to get permission to use stuff like that in movies. Also if hes gonna update every1 else like starscream is a FA 22 instead of like an f15 or f16 whatever he was, then you have to update him too.

  • Megatron is a jet? Oh Hollywood why can't you respect anything?

  • Well, didn't he from time to time appear as a jet? Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else. It just feels like I've seen Megatron transform into a jet at one point or another. Maybe I'm thinking of Galvatron.

  • Megaton was always a hand gun. Galvatron was a crappy futuristic canon kind of thing. No jet.

  • Oh yeah... Artillery piece, wasn't he? Galvatron, that is. I guess I was actually thinking of the warrior guy in jet form that Galvatron rides inside right before he kills Starscream. Right. Sorry.

  • that would be Cyclonus..the warrior jet *lol*

  • Actually Galvatron was a mortar cannon.

Which I thought was nice cause it allowed him to fight solo for a change. >_>

  • Screw that! Galvatron sucked. This Megatron Jet thing sucks. Megatron is a gun.

  • So it wouldn't bother you if you were watching the movie and this tiny little handgun turns into a 30ft robot. They're Transformers. Not TransMORPHERS. I hate Michael Bay for making Optimus look so weak and pathetic against Megatron in the movie. But I totally understand why he made Megatron a jet instead of a tiny handgun. You can expect for Soundwave to not be a boom box if he ever shows up in the sequals.

  • But a jet? B a canon, a tank, a somthing. But a jet?

  • Well I was thinking maybe some sort of Cybertronian mobile tank for Megatron.

  • Something. U gotta admit the plane sucked. Not even related to the original toy...

  • Meh...I eventually learned to tolerate it. What I was livid about was how Brawl was renamed Devastator in the movie as well as Prime being made to look like such a weakling against Megatron.

  • Agreed. And Optimus had a mouth! What's wrong with these people?... but effects where great.

  • I didn't mind Prime having a mouth. As long as he still had his faceplate I was happy.

  • The worst thing was that this wasn't the first time and it won't be the last - Galaxy Force/Cybertron Prime started it all (not counting Primal, Primal wouldn't be Primal without a mouth!), then it got passed on to the movie, and now Animated Prime has one. I'm getting more used to the mouth, but it still irritates me a wee bit.

  • Perhaps you're remembering Energon Galvatron? He was a very clear homage to G1 Galvatron, but he turned into a Cybertronian "gunship"-like jet fighter.

  • FRANK! You DA MAN! Thanks a zillion for bringin Megs back!

  • frank welker is a god!

  • frank welker is awsome! but i dont think the movie design would fit the voice we all love
