I'm a logger & sawyer in north Texas. We have tons of flame boxelder - do you think the flame version of acer negundo would taste different from regular boxelder?
Our winters get plenty cold enough to tap them I believe. Are we sup[posed to waint until we're having 20ish degree nights, followed by 40ish degree days?
I want to thank you for this video. I tapped maple for the first time this year and this was a great resource. I had two LARGE silver maple in my yard and made about a pint or more of syrup. The syrup was still pretty tasty even though I had no sugar maple!
i am not sure where this video is from, but i live in eastern canada and i have about 2 dozen maple trees in my backyard. its great and i used to tap trees in my yard with my Dad when I was little. I am trying to do it again this year but I dont have the proper spouts or buckets. I think we used plastic pails with lids on them before, but i am not sure if there is a place here to buy the proper equiptment.
@xGreenEyedAngelx I think the important thing is to 'tap' the maple in the right place. Go by the larger roots. Storage and extraction are simple it seems
I heard you can tap a sugargum tree, has anyone done that yet? I got a large 'nusance' tree to try.

First time trying it this year I'm hoping for the best and my blueberry waffles need some good homemade syrup

maple syrup tastes better than refined sugar and I think they are nutritionally better than refined sugar.
