  • I too built this kit from Sterling back in the late 70s. I thought it was a great kit back then but after building an SC&H model of a square rigged Man-O-War I wouldn't go back to a smaller model.

The schooner seems to be sailing well and on a lake with steady winds I would think you could really sail.

  • Louis Henri Sullivan said "Form follows function." Your dad did'nt just build a boat he created a beatiful work of art. Sleek and nice lines to it.

  • bel lavoro bravo .

  • Great boat! Am in the process of making several sailing craft from Chapelle's book. Scow, garvey, crabbing skiff and a stick-up rig Where the front mast is at the bow and overhangs the front of the boat. The problem is making the sails and pouring the lead. The boats have centerboards. But, mine will have the boards permanently down.

  • @jrwel14

    on my Gloucester schooner

I poured a lead keel using old crabbing sinkers!

also used info from Chapelle's book

used Dacron from a rag shop and a cheap sewing machine

  • complimenti!!!

  • This is the VALDIVIA.Manufactured by Robbe.A beautiful vessel! It sails like a sailboat and not like a model.Greets from Holland!

  • @westergeest This isn't Valdivia by Robbe , its the Emmy C Berry . Its a sterling kit that went out of production when the company closed up shop in 1995 .

google classic Sterling Models resource site . He has a link from his page to this video directly .

Sterling made some great kits but they needed a lot of work and skill to turn out well .

The total opposite of todays "ARF" aircraft and ABS hulled boats .

  • Victor Models sell a schooner kit very similar to this one Maybe it's the same one. Look for their website. It's a beautiful sight to see on the water.

  • Beautiful boat. How many channels does a schooner use? And how do you sheet in the jib - is it somehow attached to the staysail behind it?

  • that is a B-E-A-UTIFUL sight

  • Wow and thank you! You just made my evening withat vid! She sails so well and it was great watching her tack at about 2:48! Also nice hearing Enya, that is quite appropriate! I myself am a remote control sail ship designer and builder.... Keep on the good work!

  • it reminds me of my ship......it sank...and never recovered it...

  • You have done a nice job on this, I have built a small one , about 18 inches long. Now Im building a bigger one . But I do not think mine will look as good as yours on the water !

  • Your dad has a nice boat.

  • Nice Sailboat....

  • can someone tell me where I can buy this boat please?

  • Try Harbor models I they should be able to help you out.

  • Can you tell me if this is scratchbuilt or a kit?

  • A two masted fishing schooner, I reckon

  • cool...

  • Nice! An RC sailboat that actually sails in a straight line for more than 3 feet! A technological break through considering the quality of most RC sailboat video! This design actually works. Good job!

  • Why yes, yes it is...

  • No, this is a work of art being sailed in a pond.

  • excellent craftmanship and rigging, it takes superb rigging to go that without falling apart and sinking (Wind blows the mast out of place, causng neven weight, which detroys all steerng and exventually the ship capsizes and sinks :()

  • no shit sherlock

  • that thing actualy looks fast kinda

  • A beautiful vessel. Reminds me of American Privateer Lynx, minus the yard topsail of course. I've been looking for a model schooner I could convert to RC, ever since my prized Megatech Nirvana racing sloop's tragic encounter with a rogue ceiling fan last year... A shame, I enjoyed sailing it alot, very soothing and fun.

Nice choice of music, by the way. Enya's China Roses.

  • What material did the sail came from

  • Awesome, soothing, warm and inviting. Is it a kit? Did your dad build it from scratch? WOW, awsome!

    Yes, I want one.....

  • Very nice, how big is it?

  • cool i want one!

  • I don't know what would be more satisfying...the building, or the sailing. Either one is good therapy
