wow amazing!!!! i wish i lived in america so i could enjoy watchin more hockey instead we got piss ant football poofs that float round gettin payed far too much while doin balerina impressions!!
This video is from highlights they showed the night #18 was retired never to be worn again by a Blackhawk. I was there. This guy was a treat to watch. When he had the puck the Stadium stood up and roared. All I got to say is thank you Montreal for picking Doug Wickenheiser. We were more then happy to watch your hometown boy for 13 years at a Chicago Blackhawk.
@beatleboy9020001 ya umm fuck boby orr this is a savard video i dont even understand why any other people are being brought up dennis is the man skill wise and personality who cares who came up with the spin o rama thats stupid to argue about the fact is savard is a great player
@melies138 you're a dumbass... he had four two hundred plus point seasons... and a goalie isn't the only reason the other team is able to score... it also has to do with the players, the forwards and the defense can also prevent goals.
@XXhockeylifeXX ur gettin a thumbs down. not because you aren't right, cuz you may be, but cuz you spoke rudely. really, there was no point in calling them that.
I'll give you the falling down, stick behind the back thing was ridiculiously good, but for now I'll stick him in the Bure category. One of the best guns of the NHL now: Sure. All time great: No.
all you guys who re ranking all time greats; please stop putting pavel bure on the list so high. when did that little shit show up for playoffs? where are the bossy's, denis potvins, howes on your lists?
Growing up in Minnesota, I HATED the Blackhawks, but that was one of the best rivalries in the NHL. Savard was and is a class act, and I have a TON of respect for him. All kids that want to be hockey players should watch him skate and stickhandle. His "spin-o-rama" is a classic. Hopefully he can get the Hawks back on track.
I agree with you 100%. I'm an old North Stars fan as well. Looking back at the Chi vs. Min rivalries, they were on par with the old Edmonton/Calgary and Toronto/Montreal. Nothing like them in the NHL.
Savard was under-rated because he didn't play on the east coast. As coach, he has a ton of talent on the new Black Hawks' team to get them back on top. That will be just in time for the potential realignment and back in a division with Minny.
Great Comments. I am a Blackhawks fan, but really miss the old North Stars-Hawks rivalry. I Loved watching Dino Ciccarelli, Willi Plett, Neal Broten and other North Stars battle it out with Savard, Al Secord, Doug Wilson and the rest of the Hawks. Those were great days in the Old Chicago Stadium and the Met Center in Bloomington.
Savvy is a class act. I hope he can get the Hawks turned around. The young kids they got now remind me of the Savard, Larmer, Secord Hawks of the 80s.
What's really amazing is that Savard wasn't the 1st player picked in the draft. He went 3rd behind Babych & Wickenheiser. I didn't realize how truly great he was until a few years after he was in the league because Wirtz & Co. did not televise home or road games back then!!! Imagine if the Bears or Cubs did that?
Great vid. Savard was my favourite player growing up. I remember having a tape that had this amazing goal by Savard that made him my fav. player. Unfortunately I can't find it now :(. It's not the one that's already posted on youtube and was posted on tsn's top 10 goals. It was better!..
One of a kind. Probably the biggest single reason I fell in love with this sport. If you're ever trying to make a non-fan appreciate the thrill of hockey, show them this vid. Then throw in a Probert fight to seal the deal.
I was there when they retired his number. My Uncle Said to me, "This place sounds like the Old Barn when they introduced Savvy." Good times, that was Blackhawk Hockey.
Savard was the spin-o-rama king. Nobody has ever mastered this technique as he did.

Funny because I see MANY SIMILARITIES between Kovalev's style and Savard's. Almost uncanny how similar.
His skates even look similar to Kovalev's. :P
TheHockeyCentral 2 years ago
Other way around, Savard was before Kovalev and even then Kovalev couldn't hold Savards jock strap in skating prowess.
oneclowndown 1 year ago
@TheHockeyCentral lol ya I noticed the same thing and Kovalev also does that spin move sometimes and the skates also look similar lol !!!

@AK27445094 The skates are what really got me. Kovalev loves the RBK 9k's with the white back/trim.

I just LOVE somebody who can't even acknowledge the greatness of a player.
Yeah, Wayne Gretzky got his 92 goals 'coz ALL the goalies were bad that year.
Denis Savard was great. Just say it.
