@Curas1 you also forgot that the way change mind to fighting the new flesh is changing the tape which is also a illusion where he uses the weapons videodrome has given max to fight back at them but after killing the two evil terrorist who were using electronic versions to control peoples minds max aka played by james woods had to let his body die which means he had to kill himself in order for the flesh in brain to stop controling him. i do agree with you curas that this was a mind control game
That's kinda the one scene that threw me, if was all a hallucination on max's side why did the terrorist see his hand marred and it blow up and take out a wall.
I guess he was partly influenced by the signal and had a tumor also so he saw the hallucinations and must have been holding a grenade.
or else videodrome illusion was altering reality ?
Debby Harry has such an amazing presence in this film, and James Woods is incredible too. I hadn't seen this movie yet when he and I made small talk at a restaurant in West Hollywood a few years back. I would have told him how ahead of its time this movie was.
just think, a lot of the best cult classic movies were not about vampires. if exorcist or alien or even book of eli were about vampires - they would not be any good. same with rap music-- it started with debbie harry-- it was never worthy of continuing. there is a waste of creativity out there.

Disappointing... I had heard so much about how freaky and horrifying this movie was, to the point that I was scared to watch it. But this... meh. It wasn't bad, but I just expected more.
backfoliage, you're about 30 yrs late! 30 years ago it WAS a wonderfully quirky, lurid and gory film...listen to cronenberg's and wood's commentary tracks on the criterion edition for an incredible exposition on what you are witnessing.

It's simple, everything that was a special effect in the movie was a illusion.
Videodrome was the US military trying to use electronic versions of 'lsd mind control' to create superagents and the new flesh was terrorism.
This was a pro terrorist movie just like V for Vendetta
