5:57 is a perfect example of making a scene in these movies better (in contrast to additions that detract from the narrative instead of enhancing it lol 97 SE). Such a great fucking choice
I like how Adywan actually added a brief shot of Red Leader's X-Wing colliding with the Death Star before it explodes. Far more realistic than the "official" versions where all you see is an explosion.
This is a Fan re-editing of the Star Wars saga that has some excellent suggestion and additional visual recommend seeing to anyone if you want to see a different point of view. My only major reservation in this re-editing, is in not including C3PO reaction to when Artoo is hit. Its an emotional moment lost regarding the bond between both droids while everyone are focus on the human lost of life. The DS explosion is awesome along with the addition of extra fighter action in the background
Whoo, yay, he fixed the timer! I never understood why the Death Star's timer kept resetting at 00:01:00 30 times for 30 minutes rather than starting from 00:30:00.
Althought I've been watching Star Wars since 1996, I msut say I've never been this tense watching it, I was glued to the screen, in bated breath, actually hoping the Rebels would do it (Somethign I've not done since watching Empire and playing the Battlefront games) So watching this has made my childhood come full circle, due to the Special effects. Now to all you purists that claim Special Effect made them worse. THIS is proof they don't :D
Adywan made a huge mistake. When Luke, Bigs and Wedge were travelling down the trench they were way to close together. Biggs said "I'll stay back far enough to cover you". I don't thing a few metres is what he meant.
When Luke says "I lost R2", 3PO had a clear emotional reaction, destroyed by this new edit...
I Think the new visual effects are all in place, and were really awessome, but Adywan wasn't really worried about keep the script intact, so we lost a lot of the momentum and the feeling of it... Specially when those TIE Fighters appears on the Death Star... added one minute of speechless dogfight and ruined a lot of scenes that should be there... AND had the Imperial March... Don't do this...
I don't think this is the original footage. I think this was the adulterated version when the original three were relegated to prequel status and where extra "FX" or scenes were added.
@Psamiad1986 First, assume that 1/10 of the 17.16 quadrillion cubic meters of the Death Star is something other than empty space and 6/10 of the total volume is pressurized space.
That will require 1.71 quadrillion cubic meters of steel, about 134 quadrillion tonnes. That's $12.95 quintillion in current 2008 prices, and that's without counting strange alloys and elements.
• Shipping that to space will cost $95 million per tonne: So add $12.79 septillion in transport.
@Psamiad1986 Now you need to add air, which will require 8.23 quintillion cubic meters of Nitrogen, and 1.65 quintillion cubic meters of oxygen, for a total delivery cost of $2.81 septillions and $212.46 quintilion
The total: $15,602,022,489,829,821,422,840,226.94.
That will only get you the very basic model of Death Star, no options, no GPS, no radio, no leather heated seats etc etc..
Cool remake- Lucas should do changes like this instead of pointless and stupid Greedo shoots first- changes... now just some aliens there among the rebels and it would be perfect :D
The empire do not use close after the clone wars, they advertise for storm trooper recruits from average human citizens of the empire. This was also the reason why the empire was screen as xenophobic.
@TheRealVolt Nope that's an old EU-fact there- Empire continued using clones with recruits- and best of the recruits was cloned...so all weren't jango clones anymore but most were clones- that's the fact Lucas knew from the very beginning- that's why we never see stormies without their helmets in ot- they were supposedly clones. Clones appear in many eu-stories now so you are wrong Stormies are clones...
The addition of the battle hologram in the Yavin base, the targeting reticle from the Death Star and the editing to show that the Death Star firing sequence was almost completed when it was destroyed just makes it that much cooler.
I know this is a 2 month old post, but hey, I'm a Star Wars Geek. The first Death Star took a long time to recharge (One full day I believe), so it would have been a very bad decision to blast their way through Yavin. The 2nd Death Star had improvements made to its design that allowed it to be recharged in mere minutes.
@DarthTechGeek yep just read that on wookiepedia. thx. still they had enough firepower to defeat the small rebellion. overconfidence gets u everytime.
Wow, impressive explosion, good work, though I think the sparks should have been masked out because the gas giant is distanced between the Death Star and the rebel base.
It's only when you watch this again that you realise what a bad sequence this is. Although the visuals and the tension are great, the continuity and action is all over the place. You don't get the feel for the chase and the cockpit shots just look too staged. Having said that, when you take into consideration the equipment they had at the time such as optical printers and such, it's a miracle of modern cinema. No CGI in sight!
Wow. Just wow. You are a pimp! I hope George Lucas watches this video and takes note; CG can be VERY effective when it's a tool to correct and improve compositing, not something to be relied on. Not yet anyway. You even colour corrected the last shot of Vader's TIE that darkens slightly (a result of being cribbed from the craft's introductory shot when ot leaves the hangar). Flippin' awesome, keep it up!
Where was the imperial starfleet when this battle was on and why so few TIE'S launched? There must be thousands of the bleeders docked on the Death Star.
The Death Star jumped alone to the Yavin system , it was some escort arround but it did not intervinned in the battle.. also only the fighters directly under Darth Vader's command launched since Tarkin was confident in its invulnerability and did not wanted to waste fighters in 30 misserable rebel fighters that couldnt not make harm..
@galatian5 theres actually a deleted scene of luke and biggs talking on tatooine...:(
this space battle kinda got bland for me once i realized that x-wings shouldnt actually be able to manuever like that unless they have repulsors all over them
Having the Death Star share its final scene with a planet and several fighters is a little crowded, I'd agree. Having it be alone on the screen had the more impact.
When Gold Leader's torpedoes hit the surface, let's assume the guy was competent and hit with a few meters of the "small thermal exhaust port." Judging by the explosion we see, wouldn't his shot have destroyed, mangled, jumbled, or otherwise blocked the target so that any subsequent shot (Luke's) wouldn't have a chance? When they show Luke's shot going in, (always fulfilling to see) the target is perfectly clean! I can picture Jim Carrey telling Gold Leader, "Haw! You were WAY off!" :)
There were a couple of ideas that meshed into the single Death Star. The book Death Star actually helps in this. Tarkin was the brains behind the destructive goals of the project. Retcons and crazy stuff fill SW, but the books do help to make proper fixes in some ways.
Actually, read the Star Wars book Death Star, it does show that alot of people on the Death Star are just people doing their job, not evil like the Empire is usually portrayed as. I suggest the book, it's a good read.
I loved that little touch, too. Someone should make an alternate ending version where, while Luke is successful in destroying the DS, it still manages to get that fatal shot out before exploding. Oops. Luke: Uh... Han? Han: silence Luke: Han... you there? Han: Yeah, kid. I'm here. Luke: I I, uh... What the fuck just happened? Han: I know. That was pretty messed up. Wow. Luke: Yeah. Wow. Han: You, ah... You wanna find someplace to land and, ah, get a drink or something? Luke: Sure...
the only thing that bothers me about this movie is the control room for the death star's super laser. that place does not look hi tech at all! everything else actually works out fine.
"I just received word that your Death Star was destroyed at Yavin. A puny band of Rebels with outdated fighters found a weakness in your design—a thermal exhaust port that allowed a single X-wing pilot to strike a fatal blow. One pilot obliterated an entire battle station!"
Awesome additions! I watched the full movie and it was incredible. Probably will watch it again and again. That being said, one thing, where is the shot of Tarkin just before the DS explodes? There is also something that has always bothered me with this scene. When Vader locks on to a target and fires, the laser fire always shoots out straight and pans to the target.
I'm gonna be honest with you...THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THESE SCENES ON THE BLU-RAY VERSION.

I'm not a HUGE fan of Revisited, but I must admit the DS Laser firing up is ingenious.
To balance that, I find the shots with Yavin peeking in at every corner going "Hi folks! Remember me? I'm YAVIN!!" to be unnecessary.
