Funny when he mentioned about saying "gracias" for thank you in Italy. It reminds me that we americans are so proud for being what we are and we forget that we are soooooo ignorant when it comes to other countries culture and languages. Anybody who looks foreigner and doesn't look asian must be hispanic. We say gracias, por favor, buenos dias and other spanish words to anybody. Most americans don't even know that there's no language called "spanish", the real name being "castellano".

The door story is pretty cool. We were in Italy in November. Our host (a US expatriate) was a tour guide and explained it. Did you guys see the door open? Anyway, Bernini was commissioned to do a sculpture of the seven virtues, in St Peters Basilica. They forgot to tell him that a door had to be in the middle. Anyway, the sculpture of truth, has her foot on a globe, right on top of England (because the Pope was pissed at England). Also Truth was naked, but was covered up at a later date.
