  • To lift heavy objects, thoracic & lumbar spine should be LOCKED in EXTENSION throughout the entire lift, & cervical spine should be neutral. You'll need to bend knees to reach objects on the ground if spine's extended properly, but bending forward at the hip's also fine: As long as the spine's locked you're using the gluteus muscles to lift, while the spinal erectors & interspinal muscles maintain a isometric contraction, thus the discs they're attached to remain safely motionless.
