Is it me, or do they have shit-ton of makeup on him in this video? Look at 3:39, he looks like they've waxed his eyebrows, slapped some makeup and lipstick on him! I understand you need makeup for tv and stuff, but jeesh, I think somebody on the staff got a little carried away!
one of the best bowling instruction videos ever made. well scripted, great presentation and camera work. Profession quality. i review this from time to time for the fundamentals.
i would like some advice on a wrist or elbow support i get a clicking noise in my wrist when i release the ball that doesn't sound very reasuring and i often get a sharp pain in my forearm. i am considering getting something to help me with this because i don't want to damage my wrist or muscles in my arm. i don't know why its happening i dont bend my arm before release or flip my wrist on release. view my video and see if u can notice what is causing these problems if you would like
my shoulder had a similar problem with popping in my swing. just try and take a two-week to a month rest on bowling and if it doesnt get better by then, see a doctor
I have this video. These tips helped my game. And I love Dick's past memories section at the end. A nice tribute also to Steve Wunderlich, Del Warren, and Leila Wagner.
So, despite your consistency, you're not getting a consistent ball roll. Maybe your bowling ball needs to be cleaned, and therefore it isn't consistent in the way it rolls. Also, you could be bowling on lanes that haven't been freshly oiled and have dry spots and carry down. If you clean your ball about once or twice a week with rubbing alcohol and a good bowling ball cleaner, and make sure you're bowling on lanes that are freshly oiled, you should get a more consistent reaction:D
omfg thanks these tips worked my average rose by 30 pins! i havnt been bowling for long either but now my average is doing well im more confident i just wash my ball with warm water before i leave and bowl early right after theyve finnished oiling im doing well thanks thanks thanks
You're quite welcome, my friend! I'm very glad that I could help you out. Good luck to you and I hope you keep learning and getting better every time you bowl!
I've used rubbing alcohol dozens of times on a ball i've had for over 2 years, and I shot a 719 with it the other day. It is still consistent and gets good length before it starts to roll, so I wouldn't say it's bad to use alcohol on your ball.
I agree. I started using rubbing alcohol 70% after seeing many old time bowlers in my league. I have a #14 Storm Dimension for about 2 years(I have a bad wrist, had to go to a lighter wight), I bake it once a month and use rubbing alcohol all the time. I just shot my highest series, a 755 with a 300 game. The ball works just fine, whenever I shoot a bad game is my lack of skill, not ball's fault.
That's great man! I'm glad you found the right "ingredients" for success. Bowling is just like any other sport, the harder you work at it the better you'll do, and sometimes that just means finding what will give you the best reaction.
I would say clean the ball once or twice a week if that's how often you bowl. I never put a dirty ball in my bag, clean it after each bowling session. If you bowl 5 times a week, then clean it 5 times. Northing's worse than feeling good at the approach, having a good release, follow through, and then watch your ball slide, and never move towards the pocket.
When I posted that comment below, I bowled about 5 or 6 days out of the week. Now that I'm in college though, I only bowl aboutonce or twice a week, so my game has lost a little bit of its luster. I still average about 210 right now, but I think with a little practice it could be in the mid to upper 220's. Keeping a bowling ball clean is imperitive in improving your average at that point.
i quite often throw a perfect hook into a perfect strike then on my next shot its from exectly the same spot to exectly the same spot it breaks at exactly the same time and point it is exactly the same technique and speed but on the second shot it seems to hook out to the 7 pin
well prob not perfectly but around the same rev rate maybe slightly lower or higher and same speed give or take a bit and it crosses exactly the same spot

I use acetone on my bowling balls. It works great gets all the oil and dirt deep inside the ball.
TyRTi 1 year ago
@TyRTi Acetone is on the USBC banned products for use on bowling balls.

do not use rubbing alchohol on a bowling ball, it will start to change the chemical composition of the reactive material which is not good.

@BowlerScott How do I release the ball with my fingers on the side of the ball. I have tried it it but I always cut my thumb after a couple of games.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
TheAmpad 1 year ago
@TheAmpad Go to your PRO Shop and have them redrill your thumb hole for that type of release. But you shouldn't be on the side of the ball anyway.
SlatebowlAllStars 1 year ago
@SlatebowlAllStars OK, I will do it. Thanks

Are you trying to say that you throw one really good strike, then copy it perfectly on the next ball only to find that it breaks too much?
BowlerScott 3 years ago
well prob not perfectly but around the same rev rate maybe slightly lower or higher and same speed give or take a bit and it crosses exactly the same spot
