Excellent video and beautiful scenery! Looks like you lads had a great time. Well done on the 8 items too, I, Like many others would struggle to keep it down to that number. My pockets alone would contain more. Thanks for sharing it with us. Ps. Next time I'm coming!
Hi - I'm sorry if i upset you by one of my recent posts because it wasnt meant for you or your friends to take offence. I have a tendency to say what is on my mind but it is never meant in a malicious or hurtful way. I was happy and jokey when i wrote the comment but unfortunately the written word can often be taken in a different way. So i apologise from the bottom of my heart.
Absolutely amazing video guys, really enjoyed watching it. I think it was brave to go without a torch, that would definitely be in my pack. I can't imagine doing an 8 item challenge, I usually have about 800, even just for a day hike! Good on you chaps.
Oh, what is Matt's name on the NB forums? I'd like to ask him about his gaiters. :)
@Smith28Adventure Matt's name is infact "Matt"! :) He doesn't post a whole lot but I do know he reads quite a lot of posts, his avatar is his face so hopefully you'll recognise him when you see him on there.
What is the name of the song from 4:43 to 5:30 and who made it? By the way awesome video. I have been wanting to try something like this for a while and this has really motivated me to do it.
@MajorNuclearNate It's called "Deliberate Thought" by Kevin MacLeod and it is royalty free which means it's free for you to download and use legally :) He's got a great website sharing lots of music freely - what we like. Glad you enjoyed the video, all the best,
love this vid guys but kinda disappointed me once i saw dick proenekke i thought yess theyre gonna build a cabin and live there for the next 30 years ;) haha great vid the 8 items shows the more you know the less you carry i would love to go there one day .
Jet boils are for girls. Very true. I don't think I would take any gas stove for this type a camping, there's to much to go wrong. Trangia's all the way for me.
@PaulDeFitter Checkout the Natural-Bushcraft Blog and whilst your there pop in and say hello in the community forum, happy to answer any and all questions there.
Excellent video, Ash & company! I've been anticipating another Dartmoor vid! I hope this tradition continues. Glad to see the camera survived this year to capture more! :) So, did you guys weigh the packs this year? Who had the lightest pack?
@antpop1 hehe! Yeah the camera is still alive :) The battery broke on me last year :( But got a new one now ;D No we didn't weigh in this year! There wasn't so much of a focus on weight like there was last year from Matt & Martin. A couple of us commented that somehow we thought we might have had heavier packs than last year! Cheers,
@crucialdudechris I'm glad you like it :) It's Tom Dale a Cornish Busker, he's on MySpace and does superb albums. I can recommend the album called "West Country Blues" which has the track you mentioned and other great ones. If you get his music let him know you discovered him through Natural-Bushcraft and that I put you on to him ;D Cheers,
I'm curious are there lands that are reserved as public nature parks or are all lands privately owned ...in other words I'm thinking of 'old growth forests' and/or 'crown lands' as we call them here in Canada(I'm remembering that in one of your videos you mentioned having to get permission to camp from the owner of the land)
thanks for sharing these moments of your outdoor challenge
I'm curious too (as another commenter noted) about the lists of 8 items chosen by each
@fizzyfits Well you dig it up carefully (use a trowel or spade if you've got one), we used a digging stick on this trip. Take out a big square and replace it when your done. Before you replace the grass make sure you clear the fire-pit of coals and charcoal, mix up the remaining ash and earth with water, make sure it's cool and the earth is roughed up then put back the grass. It will grow :) Grass is hardy stuff really.
YES! A new Dartmoor challenge :D The first 10 item one is one of my favourite videos on YouTube! Beautiful Deer sighting, I love it when you look up and just in the corner of your eye spot something moving. You turn around and there's 4-5 Deer :)
Really, really enjoyed that Ashley! One of my new favourites :D
@MrSpooner123 Food/Drink & Clothes were considered free items, so some in the group decided to take clothing to compensate for a lack of bedding. Bedding, Clothing, Food & Drink just in themselves can take up quite a lot of room. Checkout the Natural-Bushcraft Blog to find out exactly what items we were carrying. Infact I will do an update on teh blog hopefully in the next day to include all our kits. Cheers,
Fantastic video guys! I am astonished that you edited and produced a video with such incredible production values in just an couple of days! Really good work to the film maker. And I truely enjoyed the camping trip as well. Lots of nature, and animals. And I'm a hammock camper myself (Warbonnet Blackbird). Thanks again my friends = ) ~Wolf
@FatDaddy4Fun Thanks ~Wolf I'm glad you liked & mentioned my video editing as normally it's just something that gets over-looked :) I edit all the videos myself and it did take my quite a few hours! But it's worth it for the memories it brings back. All the best,

This can spare you some pain.
@cdltpx WOW! you don't have to write so much you know and please just be quiet because all i came on this video is to watch it and not to be geeked out over the internet!(geeked is my own random word for learning hearing or watching something which will turn you into a geek!)
@cdltpx See Religious love would be agape this is not that. No asshole is my way of saying I am not trying to be an asshole just telling your generation to get it right.
