What we can hope for, is that somehow something outside of ourselves will change us for the better. Well, thats what Christ showed and did. @lawrence107 And a lot of people left Poland for similar reasons, but Pope John Paul II did not. He had hope that the Nazi's would disappear. Same for Benedict. He hoped that the Nazis would disappear and when they did, the need for priests was so great. That is why he became a priest. Nazis and Catholics were opposing ideologies.
