I am curious how the hobbing bit comes into being - Are they a standard tool to be ordered from a specialty supplier, or are they custom ordered for the job from a cnc shop?

please clear how u can cut 44 teeth, in 660 mm (26") diameter, with a 2 DP Hob Cutter?

You are correct in questioning the diameter as I should have put 584.00mm instead of 660mm.

Single lead hob. Made gears with Barber-Colman, Gould & Eberhardt and other hobbers many years ago. Even used taps to make small gears on hobbers.
What type of lead arrangement does this hobber use for helicals?

Very nice! we do a similar gear at my work. with a coated cutter we're going .040"/rev and about 60/70 rpm.
