I have ashburgers. You learn the nuances. You learn them. Fuck. It's not that hard. It's more important than some job. It's the logical thing to do if you think about it. Nothing is impossible, you're just arrogant.
@tymoe417 Did I say it was impossible? No, obviously that's your obsession. What makes me arrogant? You figured it out and I didn't, who's arrogant? Mind you the way you spelled it makes me think you are a troll.
@anubis2814 The point is that emotional and social intelligence is what it needed in the world for it to function. It's the logical thing to learn how to do. The point is is that you are being arrogant because I understand and agree with everything you are talking about, BUT you don't care about what other's care about DUE TO an inherent inability to understand, thus there is an emotional disconnect between society.
3. Asperger's are naturally focused and many times obsessed to the point we ignore other facts or things around us. The word Genius is falling out of favor because it just means really good at one thing.
4. Untrue, it takes a lot of work, practice and observation but you can learn social skills.
6. Asperger's does have a relation to feeling like the system sucks and wanting to change it even if one doesn't realize that there is a lot of social parts they don't get
3 I am focused on science, computers and arts, but not to the point of analytical disruption... Well mabie a bit with science. XD
4 Although you may be correct, being in an environment where people are mostly autistic/aspergers I get a good view of their traits. I am Better at being social with them rather than others because they experience things in a similar way that I do.
6 I have felt that way, but I was speaking of the democrats and socialists are all the same bs...
I agree and disagree with this video. I don't think this speaks for all aspies. However, it's a very detailed and well constructed video and gives a lot of food for thought. However, I honestly think fringeelements has more in common with a psychopath than an aspie. At least us aspies generally have compassion for other (or at least the capacity for it). I doubt (given his social darwinism) that he even understands what empathy is.
@TheInternetRageGirl I'm just going on what I heard I do my best not to give internet diagnosis. If he was raised in a Randian family, his capability for empathy could have been damaged. All of us need to have our empathy nurtured or it wont be as strong regardless of our psychological conditions.
@anubis2814 I honestly can't say what style of parenting I got. My grandparents had to step in when my mum got ill and my dad was always working, so he couldn't really take care of us. I suppose that experience really taught me how important things like DLA and the NHS are for families like mine. There is literally no way we could have survived without the NHS, so I guess that's why I cannot empathise with Fringe. That's such an Aspie thing, isn't it? haha.
@Frizzurd Fair enough. However, I personally don't understand what you mean by "I know I am inferior". Inferior in what way? Biologically speaking, the fact that you are alive (and living past your 5th birthday) makes you way more successful than most lifeforms.
@TheInternetRageGirl That is like bragging about winning the special olympics. I am inferior to the average neurotypical human being. I would rather be "another lifeform" as you put it, because then i would run completely on instincts without emotion, thus I would not be aware and ashamed of my inferiority. If it wasn't for empathy in human society I would not be here... i am a drain on the system and contribute nothing.
@Frizzurd Oh, for fuck's sake, I was talking about biology. I wasn't trying to comfort you, kiddo. I'm saying that ON A BIOLOGICAL LEVEL, you are successful because you aren't fucking dead. That's the whole point of evolution - survival of the species. Take your emo antics elsewhere. And what the fuck? Don't diss the special olympics. A lot of these people compete in the "real" olympics too. Also, they've achieved mroe than most people do, so fuck you.
Excellent video. I've been listening to Ron Paul and his ilk lately, and started to think they were making sense....so, thank you very much for the reality check :P .
I know your pain, being on the spectrum myself. I am fortunate (due in part to some effort on my part) to have a job where my style of thinking is not only encouraged but highly valued. Because I love a good puzzle and will follow every twist and turn of it single-mindedly, I am quite good at solving the problems my line of works presents - that being a Linux administrator. I only wish that more companies were like mine and knew how to better manage their intellectual capital.
@Frizzurd Pardon me for saying so, but that's not likely to be true. I don't even have to know you personally to say that. What's much more likely is that you don't know what you are good at yet. I get the feeling that you are younger than I am, and it took me some years (and thousands of dollars) to find out what I do well. Give yourself some time and explore your capabilities.
I always felt that my political views were from my Aspergers. I found people cruel and mean growing up, so I wanted to do everything right and listen to the authority figures, thinking that I would be awarded for my good behavior. I was mistaked. Now, I want to rid the wrongs of the past and fight for social injustice (Ironic, I know). I think if people are not looked after they can do the most horrible things, living in a Bioshock world than Atlas Shrugged one.
I enjoyed the video, but I still have to disagree that roads, water systems and regulations are "socialist"; I still just think they're organs of the state directed towards instilling order and promiting stability, as well as ensuring economic activity.
@niriop If you watch my definitions video you will find that socialism fits, however in the US many companies have been recently buying privatized water systems and toll roads, costing the tax payer a lot more money in the long term. Its capitalism at its worst.
@niriop Well then you shall have to disagree with the dictionary and obviously the pro-privatization nut bags which isn't so bad. I agree they are organs of the state too, as would be universal health care and social security, but they are still methods of wealth redistribution.
@anubis2814 Well, the dictionary is only a semi-arbitrary definer, not an explorative political science text. The thing for me is that such policies of wealth distribution as you describe do not automatically equal socialism; I hold to a strict definition of socialism as a socio-economic model in which the means of production and service are worker-owned and controlled. The actions of the state within a capitalist economic system you describe are just that: instances of state intervention.
Wow. In the beginning of the video I started to think I was an Aspie - that's often what I do in a work place. And I can't stand gossip :o And I'm libertarian.
I don't think that socialist libertarians and market libertarians are that far apart really. Coming from the socialist libertarianism myself I used to have very negative connotations with free markets, that turned out not to be what I thought it was when I took a closer look at it.
And what it comes down to in the end is you simply need to learn how to abuse EVERYTHING or isolate your self completely.
Yeah this world was made by pathetic scum, for pathetic scum, illogical and backwards and I, or anyone else.. will NEVER be able to do ANYTHING to change it.
Well duh.. answer is DON'T BOTHER trying to change it. EMBRACE IT. Take advantage of it, push it to the ground and kick it while its down. Its the only way not to have the same happen to you in the very bitter end.
So that means, when I discuss the pros and cons of capitalism and regulation, using the history of the railroads to demonstrate my points, that I'm expressing "nuance?" Neat!
This video made me realize that i think so much about the problems in government, that i arrived at the conclusion that human controlled government is bad too. Only i always recognized that government is a necessary evil, rather than something to be disposed of. Difference is, i still hold that position.
Hmmm, I never thought of how my bipolar condition might affect my politics! I tend to having sweeping, grandoise beliefs and a lot of creativity, but lack the organization to put a lot of it into motion. I support a social democrat or socialist style goverment, which is big on ideas but tends to gloss over how to get there.
Loved this video, it made me think and made a lot of sense.
Man, I never really thought about it, but that's how I am at work too. I'm an aspie, and I'm also a Production Supervisor at my job. I guess I better learn to small talk a little more.
Interesting. As a PDD-NOS with a clusterfuck of political ideas ranging from libertarian to socialist, I've been wondering for a few weeks the relationship between the Autism Spectrum and politics and religion, then you post this.
I hate a lot of the fiscal libertarians I've ran into. So many of them have acted like children and called anyone who disagrees with them a thief or some other such bullshit. Whenever you try to have an argument with them they bombard you with strawmen and pretty words yet run away from an argument.
Speaking of autism, Google "neurotypical privilege" and murder of autistics. After the later click "This Way of Life: Murder of Autistics." The site is a real eye opener regarding the lenient sentences people who murder their own children receive.
Anubis, I consider myself a libertarian, but not in the Ron Pauline ( Paulite, Paulist?) sense. He doesn't speak for all of us. Like you, (he said, hoping he isn't putting words in someone's mouth) I think there needs to be a effectual balance between socialism and capitalism for best success. I just don't know what it is yet :( . Good video, though.
@Jaybird196 Libertarian has evolved and changed over time. I consider myself a social libertarian, but not a fiscal one which is basically an extreme conservative. Libertarian in Europe and the US have entirely different meanings. Libertarian actually came out of the socialist movement, then got high jacked by capitalists.
Its true, the world's societies are built for the average. If they were built for the logical and committed thinkers the average person wouldn't be able to function in it.
Also, as Jared Diamond puts it, all gov'ts are kleptocracies. The difference between a good or bad kleptocracy is how the gov't uses the stolen "tax" dollars, i.e. a good kelptocracy is the balance of social systems and individual rights while a bad one serves only the elite in society yet takes taxes from the bottom.
My brother has Asperger's. As much as I'd like him to look into things like you have, he refuses to look deeper. Definitions is something that stops him a lot. I tell him that Psychology and Psychiatry and different but he sees them as the same; he sees Scientists as some mix of Communists, Elitists, and Christian haters. I explained how we are animals and all he could say as a response was saying "no, we're not!" repeatedly. I doubt he'll see things differently with a black and white view.
@PikminDS Don't get me wrong though, I just can't have any deep conversation without him calling me wrong on my views simply because \i disagree with him.
I'm a person who tend to see things very black and white however I've recently started to see that the world does not work as I think is does. this video pushed me to explore my thoughts further, thanks for making this.
Yea, the well paid people don't like it when you point out a series of severe flaws in the company's new $10m plan, especially when you come to the ultimate conclusion that someone is pocketing 99.9999% of the budget....
I don't want you to think I'm being down on your video - I loved it and shared it in many places. But you can go too far in the other direction. Trying to fix problems, is not a bad thing - and neurotypical people don't always have the right answer. The reason they reject change is not necessarily because autistic people do not have the full insight - people resist change generally as threats to their dominance, sanity, authority and comfort.
@godshiva I agree, you always have to try, just the realization that the world isn't black and white and is very social will help one do it better because its a major factor that's not taken into account.
It sounds like you're making the mistake of viewing things from only two points of view: AS & NT. That kind of implies that al aspies think alike, and all NT's likewise. If that were true then all problems would be black and white, not shades of grey. An arrogant NT ignores nuance in favour of their own opinion. A 'problem solving' aspie disregards nuance in search of the perfect solution.
I reject your notion that the reason radical ideas won't work is because of neuro-typicals. Nuance exists whether people get it or not - regardless of how their minds work.
@anubis2814 hmm the way you descibed your logical way thinking in videos often sounds like me most of the time. So don't feel bad I pretty sure I am normal. Though since I have only ever had 6 doctor vist in my 21 years of life I can't sure of that.
I remember some rich libertarians were going to build a floating city some where, and run it with libertarian values.
That Libertarian experiment is going to be a beautiful disaster. I really do hope that they make it and see for themselves how not giving a shit about anyone but themselves is going to work out. Regulation? No, they don't need that. Sell poison food, build buildings that can't withstand weather because it would cost much more to make them safe.
@mrx0066600 I'd take a look at it if prostitution, drugs, gambling and public nudity were legal. But if it's Republican morals with no welfare . .. gimme a break!
I don't really get the libiterian minset, to me capatalism works and isn't broken, the problem especially in the US is that alot of the safeguards have been removed, The thing that confuses me with libiterian mindset and such is that, if we can't rely on big buisnesses to give a fuck about their employee's when forced too, how are they supposed to suddenly care when they don't have to.
Very interesting video. Logical and well thought out and gave me lots of stuff to think about---my favorite kind of video! I think I'll watch it again if you don't mind.
I had to leave a job for innovating which made me unpopular and I was sabotaged by my co-workers who thought my enthusiasm would be funny to "mess with",
But now I work in a company were at least 85% of the people has Asperger's - in fact, is has been (half jokingly) said that you have to be at least a little autistic to pass the interview.
You say ospergers, most say assburgers, eoropeans say ass-purrrjers.What is the correct pronunciation? Not that this is important.I've just always wondered.Cuz nobody pronounces it the same.
I like your video : ) but to me companies should pay tax. people shouldn't pay tax on their wages.

Its the only way not to have the same happen to you in the very bitter end.
hohohoho578 6 months ago
@hohohoho578 That is a very interesting comment. I've certainly felt that way sometimes. Isolate or learn to play by their rules.

Once again, you've made me wonder if I grew up with mild Asperger's syndrome. I assumed I was just a geek. I think I'll be doing a little research.

Good video! Loved the Imagery used in it too! My favourite was the poster at 7:54, that was sweet!

Jaybird196 6 months ago
@Jaybird196 Libertarian has evolved and changed over time. I consider myself a social libertarian, but not a fiscal one which is basically an extreme conservative. Libertarian in Europe and the US have entirely different meanings. Libertarian actually came out of the socialist movement, then got high jacked by capitalists.
anubis2814 6 months ago
@anubis2814 I lean toward the European version, myself. Thank you for your response.

PikminDS 6 months ago
@PikminDS Don't get me wrong though, I just can't have any deep conversation without him calling me wrong on my views simply because \i disagree with him.

Your reasoning is flawless, but I don't agree with your conclusion.

This is a really interesting insight into how people of the autistic spectrum view the world and why some of them hold to certain political ideas.
Thank you for sharing :)
NikiPaprika 6 months ago
I'm a person who tend to see things very black and white however I've recently started to see that the world does not work as I think is does. this video pushed me to explore my thoughts further, thanks for making this.

Yea, the well paid people don't like it when you point out a series of severe flaws in the company's new $10m plan, especially when you come to the ultimate conclusion that someone is pocketing 99.9999% of the budget....
Darkfirebrand 6 months ago
I don't want you to think I'm being down on your video - I loved it and shared it in many places. But you can go too far in the other direction. Trying to fix problems, is not a bad thing - and neurotypical people don't always have the right answer. The reason they reject change is not necessarily because autistic people do not have the full insight - people resist change generally as threats to their dominance, sanity, authority and comfort.
godshiva 6 months ago
@godshiva I agree, you always have to try, just the realization that the world isn't black and white and is very social will help one do it better because its a major factor that's not taken into account.
anubis2814 6 months ago
i am Aspergers too. i too have proplems with social situations. i am allso slow learner and shy.
gethsoftware 6 months ago
It sounds like you're making the mistake of viewing things from only two points of view: AS & NT. That kind of implies that al aspies think alike, and all NT's likewise. If that were true then all problems would be black and white, not shades of grey. An arrogant NT ignores nuance in favour of their own opinion. A 'problem solving' aspie disregards nuance in search of the perfect solution.

I've wondered what the deal was with my radical libertarian friends - I'll break the news of their autism to them gently.
Seriously though, thanks for your insight. It helped shed some light on why libertarianism seems so naturally distasteful to me.
stevetheskeptic 6 months ago 3
I reject your notion that the reason radical ideas won't work is because of neuro-typicals. Nuance exists whether people get it or not - regardless of how their minds work.
godshiva 6 months ago
@godshiva Radical ideas will and have worked many times, but you have to understand the neurotypical before they do work.
anubis2814 6 months ago

Yeah that's going to do well.
mrx0066600 6 months ago
@mrx0066600 I'd take a look at it if prostitution, drugs, gambling and public nudity were legal. But if it's Republican morals with no welfare . .. gimme a break!

I don't really get the libiterian minset, to me capatalism works and isn't broken, the problem especially in the US is that alot of the safeguards have been removed, The thing that confuses me with libiterian mindset and such is that, if we can't rely on big buisnesses to give a fuck about their employee's when forced too, how are they supposed to suddenly care when they don't have to.
