  • you bastard

  • What a complete and utter twat. Saying Francis Bacons work is so simple that anyone can do it. Bacon has so much individuality and talent - when Hirst just rips off great artist (that he clearly hasn't even had the respect to research properly), and make the meanings disappear behind his veil of pretentious crap. The only time I'll respect his work is when he finally chucks himself into a tank of formaldehyde.

  • This is not art. Hes not creating. Just profiting on selling a perversion of ideas to the global "elite".

  • Why's the sound so out of synch?

  • @2Touchstone That's art!

  • Damien, carry on selling your crap in silence. Don't ever try to speak and give opinions like that again.

  • @marioucci You have SO MUCH CRAP favourited, how about YOU shut up ?

  • I can't hear half of what he's saying through his mumbling. He's like a passive-aggressive kid at the principle's office, lol.

@showersheets -It's likely. But he's so bored with it all now that it's just a uncomfortably-energetic snivel of a high.

  • Great that all the commentators here are so insightful and happy to declare what is and what isn't art without risking anything... Comfortable there on the sidelines?

Hirst's never claimed to be a grand master, its the critics and buyers that are praising him; the reality is that he is an extremely intelligent artist capable of exploiting the ideological and critical void at the heart of the art world +culture as a whole. Stop being so bitter or go back to your own comfy little dreamland.

  • Hirst is a hack. When she asks him if he can remember seeing his work he says "Oh not really, maybe one with a woman in the shower, most of what I've seen is in books." He has no idea of what he is doing he's just capitalizing on people's desire to pour money into art for bragging rights.

    Don't buy art, commission it.

  • Excuse me? Don't buy art, commission it??? What the hell? How are artists supposed to let themselves be artists if they have to paint only what people like you want in a painting for a living? If people practiced what you preached, every house would be full of painted kittens and portraits of their baby cousins and forests and beaches. I personally do not want to see that day.

  • @GothyGirl

You are clearly unaware of the long history of art patronage. Most of the greatest pieces of art ever created were done so on account of art patronage and commission work.

  • for a critic point your browser to

    keywords: artcritics, hirst

  • its wierd... he looks so ordinary for a guy who puts dead animals in formaldehyde

  • Hello i'm Rachel Campbell Johnson...lol...

  • 'I don't think any artist can get what he wants without involving other people'.

I didn't realise so called major Artists are just head chefs ordering up a dish...or have i missed something?

  • Great art survives hundreds/ thousands of years. Damian Hirst today is big , in the long term he will fade out into nothing. He is just a morbid taxidermist. Jeff Koons , Damien Hirst all these people are just a load of cobblers. It's investors , business fullstop. I just find what he does is slaughter house left overs. Francis Bacon is of a different level , Freud , etc. Why duplicate someone's paintings? Bacon , this or that? A great artist produces his art ! Hirst is a pile of shit

  • @billychub You are wrong.

  • cut the crap

  • Very interesting video. I know what Hirst means about trying to replicate Bacon's paintings - it's impossible! There's no point in even trying. His style is too unique.

  • I think Rachel looks a bit drugged up to the eyeballs! Quality of film is rubbish I bet hirst wanted to put her in formaldehyde...lol 4:42 + 8:10?? Is she stupid???? Hirst clearly thinks she is!!!! He's trying to get deep with her but she's too thick to get it!lol 6:06...lol! he's been caught out... I'm sorry but he's blatantly happy to label other peoples work as his own...

  • he keeps sniffing his nose like he is on coke....what do u guys think

  • the piece behind the interview is si influenced by Bacon's painting of George Dyer's suicide
