This part scares me more than all the parts about bombs and bullets and dying at enemy hands. Censorship, indefinite arbitrary internment, forced conscription, and expropriation were all used against the people by their elected leaders, who used flowery speech and misguiding films to portray this as necessary patriotism.

Some of the people posting here seem to think that either the communist were good and the nazis were bad or vice versa. In fact at that time, ww2, both sides were committing great crimes. So were the Japs. War is never black or white, good or bad. It just is. Personally, I am thankful we had Russia on our side. I'm american, I don't like communism but given the alternative, that is choosing Nazism, I think we made the right choice.
