  • watching videos like this lowers my self esteem. sigh.

  • Comment removed

  • The girl in the middle has no hip sockets. Brava.

  • @thatscooliguess1 what does it mean ?

  • @Caroolzinha1005 it means she can lift her leg really high properly. she just has very open hip sockets, making it easier to lift up and out of the socket while being turned out as much as possible for your frame. Which for her is nearly 180 degrees.

  • THE PHOTO OF nUREYEV! O WHAT A LIF E HE HAD AND WHAT HE GAVE TO BALLET AND CULTURE--AND WHAT A TERRIBLE AND SAD ENDING...

  • omg going so slow is torture

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • wow! i have no idea about techniques of ballet, am well versed with other dance form. But must say, out of so many hyped videos i am seeing one that really is good..very good...though seems like these ladies need another 4-5 years of more practice and training...but the middle gal is awesome!!

  • Are they doing it all in Demi pointe? That's different, but cool. The girl in the middle was amazing!

  • i wish i was that good:(

  • the girl in the middle- perfection

  • Woah... Um, I'm jelous. I've been dancing for 9 years and I am not even close... =O

  • This is about the longest center combination i have ever seen. Amazing range of flexbility for such young girls.

  • wow! so amazing and focused. what age would they be? they seem like they have been training for years.

  • this is really beautiful!

  • im about 6 and seven

  • I haven't yet seen any other training method, be it RAD, Cecchetti, SAB or whatever, emphasize the expressive use of the upper body, arms and head, to the same extent that the Vaganova method does. It's really lovely to watch and gives these students that particular coordination that's distinctly Russian.

  • The music is from Jules Massenet's opera, "Thais". It's no surprise that ballet schools the world over would use such beautiful music.

  • @avesraggiana thanks for the music

  • omg we have the same music!:))

  • same here lol

  • I second that huixue, this would be a great training tool for any dancer

  • Thank you so much for uploading these videos. They are so inspiring! Is there anywhere you can order them as a set? Are they on DVD?

They bring me back to my days training with an x-Bolshoi dancer.....nowhere else do you get this kind of training.

  • the girl in the centre has beautiful extention! the girl on the left has a very nice spot.

  • The girl in the centre has beautiful arms at most times. Truly amazing feet as well.

  • lovely. the girl in the center has amazing flexibility and control.

  • very good

  • that girl in the centre is a beautiful dancer :o

    i am so jealous!

    lovely dance also.

  • That is beautiful dancing and a great excercise but I wish they would put their arms in front of their legs when they are in second

because when ur arm is behind ur leg it is much much harder to balance. But thats just what I learned.

    5*****

  • it is much harder to balance. and if your arm is behind your leg that means your leg is either not fully in second or your arm is too far back.

the other thing is that a la seconde turn wasn't very good.

but everything else was really fantastic. these dancers are so pretty

  • NOOOPE ^^

then you'll look like a chicken xd

  • Well if it isn't then you don't have correct turn out. I am taught be a professer. SHe has been named by the voganova russian company "the only true teacher in america. The only teacher who teaches real ballet" So I'm right. you own't look like a chicken. Your butt would stick out when you did grande jettes if your leg was in fron of your arm

  • then sorry i'm stupid.

  • No no no! I'm not saying that you're stupid! I was just giving my opinion

  • all of my training has been vaganova. hardest in the world, but most beautiful by far.

  • what is vaganova training?

  • vagonova is a type of ballet. sometimes it's referred to as russian. it's just where things are done differently and some steps are named slightly differently but basically it's all still ballet. the arm placement is different and the arabesques are numbered differently than from another form of ballet like cecchetti (i think that's how you spell it) or french

  • When was this video made? The girl in the center is a gorgeous dancer

  • It is sad to think that only about 2% of dancers become professionals. They are putting their bodies through all of this stress, and for most of them, for nothing.

  • but it's fun...

  • Fun? Maybe, or maybe not.. But it's definitely worth it.

  • In Vaganova far more than 2% become professionals... Otherwise, Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet would have no dancers at all... Those who are not excepted there usually get excepted to any other theatres in the world.

  • "Meditation" from Thais, by Jules Massenet

  • Is Vaganova in Argentina??

    THey r amazing...

How's the name of the song??

  • St Petersberg, Russia

  • i think everyone already knows that, thats why all of their comments are complimentary not bagging.

i had vaganova training for 5 years with teachers from moscow. best training in the world, and very very difficult.

these girls are amazing and they are about 15 years old

  • those r sooo not 5th graders they look like teens

  • OKAY: This is their 5 year of BALLET!!! So they are 14 to 15 to maybe 16!!!!

  • i liked the girl in the center too :)

  • The girl in the centre was amazing!

  • wow

  • la niña del centtro es espectacular que buenas extenciones tiene

  • i really like vaganova ive only studied RAD since I was three. i really would like to try this.

  • wow! their exercises are really tough!

  • i think the vaganova academy are amazing!!!

  • The girl in the centre was just about the best, followed by the girl on the left. The girl on the right... rather heavy-footed!

  • vagonova style ballet is beautiful. i love the extension in the chest and the back and the expression of the whole upper body! this is a lot more expressive than rad ballet!

  • The one in the center is not that bad, look at her at 1:36. she has a good form, at least better than the other 2.

  • remember that having high legs doesn't make you a good dancer! i'm a ballet teacher and a lot of people make the mistake of presuming that the higher the legs and the more turns you can do - the better dancer you are. this is entirely untrue and i want people to understand and appreciate good technique because you can't improve on bad foundations!

  • I'm honestly not trying to be rude and I'm sorry if it comes off that way but do you realize that you are talking about vaganova dancers? proper training is not something they lack in any way shape or form. I'm not saying they are perfect or that your opinion isn't valid but were do you see the sickled feet? these girls eat sleep and breathe dance, they are hand picked because of technique, talent, and natural ability

  • @dancing13fool Right at the very beginning, the girl in the middle when she does her first develope a la seconde, her foot is sickled. Only briefly. That was the only place I observed.

  • dovete morire tutte.....tattatatatatatata

  • ma crepa teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • who is the girl in the center ?

  • wow!

they all ave such long legs!!

and are like the excat same shape!

    theyre amazing

  • .....WOW.....

  • I love the pic of Nureyev on the back wall.

  • what does "5th grade" mean? is it higher or lower than 6th grade? because these 5th grade girls seem so much stronger and less wobbly than the 6th grade girls' adagio

  • I agree, but the grades are from 1st and up to 8th. so 5th grade is lower than 6th grade.

  • what's up with the extensions, oh my god.

its straight up towards the celling!

  • I would love to have flexability and strength like that!!!!

  • ME TOO!

I'm starting ballet on monday and I'm excited! but ive got to admit a little scared tho..!

  • The music is called Meditation. It is from Thais, an opera by Jules Massenet (1842-1912).

You should hear in played on the violin by Nigel Kennedy; exquisite!

  • hey we do streches at the barre to this song every week

  • The music is called Meditation. It is from Thais, an opera by Jules Massenet (1842-1912).

You should hear it played on the violin by Nigel Kennedy; exquisite!

  • I wish I have those body types (weeps). Imagining how freezing cold Russia gets in the winter, I wonder how the dancers cope with the winter chill in the studios. I know once you move around, your body warms up, but you are also more venerable to accidents. (tears)

  • Hmm... There is *heating* in the buildings in Russia! I'm sure it's much warmer there than in many ballet studios in California, where everything is always so *over*-conditioned... :)

  • yeah, seriously

  • no really the girl in the middle is not doing her en face properly. i do vaganova and my teacher always harps at me for that. but, like, unlike them i can barely lift my leg...

  • i agree the style is different then it used to be. my teacher grad from the bolshi Vaganova school, and she said that it is a lot different. do you know when this video was taken?

  • the girl in the middle is SO good. just wonderful

  • they have great technique. and what you're saying about is style, school, or however you call it - russian style is different than franch, dutch, cechetti, etc. the hips are sometimes more tilted (in order to take the leg higher) than in french school, where the torso is not so mobile, also the arms and hands are different. it's just the style, not the lack of technique.

  • There is no way to raise a leg much above 90 degrees without tilting the hips, but every ballet requires it. The constant use of epaulement (poses) uses a slight arch of the neck and back, but it is the only way to achieve a continuous curved line through the body, which is the classical form. Sometimes the ribs must move over a supporting leg in ecarte (to the side), but the form is thrown to the wind (an image of scattering in classical form). Other methods are always en face and look dead.

  • Would their tilted hips and splayed ribs still make their developpes correct?

  • this is the 21st century--a less-than-classical view on alignment is forgiven in the name of high legs.

  • Lolz, this is true even in the Vaganova? *shudders*

  • la fille du premier plan est extraordinaire : quel talent quel travail bravo

  • The girl in the middle is the most incredible... beautiful!

  • elles sont extraordinaires

  • If reincarnation exists then this is what i would come back as!!! wow!!!!!!!

  • I would kill for that extention and those feet.

  • omg! amazing extensions!!!

  • omgsh i would those legs, arms whole body!!!

  • OMG i would kill for that extension. this is only my first year...but OMG

  • OMG!!! I would do anything for that kind of extension, mine is crap!

  • I'm SO jealous!

  • wow.

that girl in front is really good. theyre all good.

    prolly cuz they're russian

  • the girl in the middle is amazing... omg.

i'm in grade 7 and my technique is no where as good. SHIT.

  • amazing!!!! girl in the middle!! wow!!! .... :)

  • omg

  • Amazing..

  • no grade seven means the grade of ballet they are in...no their school grade.

  • Ca vous dit qu'on aille leur donner a manger ?...

  • Quel commentaire debile... Je ne vois pas qui de ces jeunes filles ont besoin de plus manger !

  • Wow, these girls are in SEVENTH GRADE. They are crazy good.

  • Wow, these girls are in SEVENTH GRADE. They are crazy good.

  • Beautiful. Talented, dedicated and lovely girls.

  • they are soo good!

  • How old are they?

  • In fifth grade, they would be 15 years old. Ten and eleven year olds are in first grade.

  • Oh okay, i am sorry. thank you :] i learned something new

  • They would be about fifteen in fifth grade, not ten. Ten and eleven year olds are in first grade.

  • OMG.... I was gonna say- if they were ten then i'd be soo hopeless

  • simply beautiful

  • This class is teaching many poses, translation: moods, and the students are learning how to move from one mood to another while maintaining balance, etc. Each pose means something. Croise is not just "crossed," but a position of strength and confidence. Efface is open but more vulnerable. Ecarte throws everything to the wind. These poses use "epaulement," i.e. corners of the room. Modern dance training only faces front.

  • troppo braveee

  • holy c---!!! i really wish i had those extensions!!!! it's amazing, she's like the second Svetlana Zakharova.

  • Stretching for extension only goes so far. You have to be born with it for extension like that.

I would kill myself if I was at the Vaganova Ballet Academy. I agree with ebbArt. Technique is good, but I wouldn't be able to stand being at a school that trains ballet dancers and not artists.

oh well. Some people like that.

  • ??? Some of the world's greatest artists came from the Vaganova. Are you familiar with Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova, George Balanchine? All were products of the Vaganova School and technique.

  • ballet dancers are artists,..and to your information,..yes one is actually able to stretch extensions like that!!but u have to do it as a really young child,..

  • Of course I know Nurev, Baryshnikov, Makarova, and Balanchine.

but have you heard of Trey McIntyre? Alonzo King? Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson? Jose Limon?

I respect the Kirov Academy for everything it is. It is a truly amazing place that has produced truly amazing ballet dancers.

BalletBoy, it takes much much much more than ballet technique to make an artist. Some of the highest paid dancers in the world have beyond perfect technique but not an ounce of artistry.

  • We can name various artists all day, but the point I was trying to make is that the Vaganova school produces more than excellent ballet technique and the artists that I mentioned are evidence of that. They are (or were) more than "ballet dancers".

Also, I am curious, can you name an example of one of these highest paid dancers in the world with beyond perfect technique but no artistry? Thanks.

  • Of course I can, but I'm not going to because it is my opinion and I don't intend to offend anybody.

I respect what you're saying. I'm not condemning what you've said, nor anything about the Vaganova school or any other strict ballet school, for that matter.

  • Like ebbArt said, this way of teaching is just too cookie cutter for me. To me, dancing is more than the number of pirouettes you can do. Just as a painting makes a statement, or a poem conveys an emotion, dancing is a way to communicate an idea or a feeling to someone else. If I watch a dancer, and feel nothing, then it means that they feel nothing. Dance originates from story telling.

  • Perfect technique is a large component, but I think it's far fetched that people have become fixated on the "perfect" body, the highest extension, and the most turns, and their idea of ballet is Giselle and Swan Lake. There is so much more to dancing, and so much more that is 100 times more fulfilling.

I think it's incredible that young girls like this have the focus and the drive to train themselves so strictly. All I mean to say is that it is not for me.

  • As a teacher, I have to say, that techniqui - is just asimple tool. The same tool as a artistical voice for an Opera artist.

It is great, if those girls have a nice split.

But for me, it means nothing, if they can't say anything with just a simple move of the arm, leg.

Just a simple move of head and .... You have a goose bumps on your skeen!

  • Please can someone tell me what is the best way to stretch to get really high vaganova extensions!!!!!!!!!

  • wow that girl in the middle!! her extensions are wow!

  • beautiful.

but theyre too "cookie cutter" for me.

everything is the same..every little nuance..

  • Well, that's what school is for. Artistic expression is for performance. In school, it is all about learning how to do the step properly in the strictest academic sense.

  • what i don't understand is how they remember all of the steps!! they never mess up

  • i luv those videos!!
