Technically we should sing this EVERY sunday : ) As it is the Lords days every week and thats why we go church in the first place because he rose again the 1st day of the week : ) I Love this hymn! Praise the Lord!!
Magnificent! Got the goosebumps happening all down my shoulders and arms! Wow! Can you begin to imagine what it will be like when Christ returns??? Wow wow wow!!! Get ready!
HHMMMM....this is an Easter service celebrating Christ's triumph over death. What better reason to raise voices in praise with majestic organ music, trumpets, tympani, and cymbals? Now for communion this would be too much. Easter is the most celebratory event of the Church year. I say bring it on!
@jimtrueblue99: Cymbals, brass, timpani, strings ... I think they all belong in a sacred setting. Indeed, ESPECIALLY in a secured setting. A Mozart mass in the Salzburg Dom. Brahms' German Requiem with the National Symphony and Chorus in the National Cathedral in D.C. To say that's not sacred music performed sacredly is just about as closed-minded as one can get.
@jla3bc Do you really think that congregational singing and the performance of a mass by trained musicians are the same thing? Really? Don't these two entirely different things have entirely different functions, purposes, and goals?
Indeed, on Easter (among other Sundays), the Flentrop plays the first 3 stanzas of Christ the Lord is Risen Today, then David picks up the 4th stanza and plays Thine is the Glory with the brass.
@Hnil96 C'mon. Cymbals are percussion instruments for use in symphonic music. Crash the cymbals in the 1812 Overture or in a Mahler symphony, but hymns are for singing voices. The increasing bad taste in church music with ever-growing ensembles of second-rate instrumentalists hooting and tooting, blaring and blasting is to me a powerful argument that the radicals are right: remove the instruments altogether and sing a capella. As for the "joyful noise" cranks, why not use jackhammers?
@jimtrueblue99 He also created those of us who are tone deaf. And many more who are entirely deaf. It seems He would be pleased with any way we choose to show our love for Him.
@Hnil96 The purpose of congreational singing is not noisy distraction. It's purpose is to express the poet's words in thoughtful, reverent song. You're supposed to be deeply thinking about the words you're singing. How much serious, deep thinking is going on when the church is filled with bangs, booms, and blares? Not much.
@Ericb61 I'm not sure. it almost sounds like it changes right around 2:56, but I'm not sure. I think they'll do that some times: use the rear Flentrop organ for the first part of the processional and then switch to the front Aeolian. Do you think the organist is playing around the 2:42 mark? He certainly looks more animated around 3:30. I'm certain that the Aeolian was used for "Thine Be the Glory," just not sure about "Risen". Sorry.
only one word describes this incredible vid.... W O W !!!!

The organ needs power to keep the congregation together...it sounds like the congregation is over powering the organ..

We could have done without the crashing cymbals in church, I think.

@jimtrueblue99 The point being that mortal men may quibble over what sounds appropriate in church but do you really thing He cares?
Hnil96 6 months ago
@Hnil96 Of course He cares. He created Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, didn't He? If He doesn't care, then He must be tone-deaf.

@Ericb61 also, if you're interested in the organs, the Chapel website has a cool page on them. I just added the link to the description.
