Here in Europe you can easily tell when a cat is pregnant because - people don't fix their cats..so they are always lean..and when they get pregnant u see the belly..but in America they get fat over time once they get fixed..ive seen it... once you take away the most important thing in their lives they lose interest in running around and being athletic.. I don't think cats are meant to be in the house..they need freedom.. like any other animal..

A responsible person who does not want to see the suffering of cats and the life they are cast into once there is no one to care fori them properly or spend the effort to take care of them correctly. Most female animals can experience this..my horse was pregnant ( did not know till 10 days before it "happened" she carried it high) She was in "heat ever two weeks and was insane half the time". the stories I could tell....she had the "hots" for the gelding two housed down the entire time.

@virgobitch86 I have heard horror stories about termination of pregnancy of cats, often the mama cat will be traumatized and become depressed, but one vet told me she would do it if the mama cat was too young to have kittens or her health was at risk. One of her cats she did have a "kitten abortion", but it was too young (5 months old) to have kittens and it was not far along so it came out ok...but if birth is within a few weeks, it's highly not recommended. @jasonmay1212 Think of all the kittens in the shelter that are being killed in the shelter. Get your cat fixed and adopt from a shelter (they have new borns that you can take care of) and then there are also listings in your local paper for free kittens.

@patttyFATTY If you don't have the money to spay the cat or let her raise her kittens, you should consider finding a new home for her. It's difficult to have it both ways. Cats aren't like people. You can't give them the "talk" and expect them to wait until marriage or use protection. They are slaves to their hormones. You and your dad sound like you both need to understand that fact of nature. Queen cat = time/money commitment.

I think it comes down to the recklessness of the owner. If they don't want their cat to be pregnant or go through the cruel termination or put down of the kittens they should get the cat de-sexed.

I have a stray hanging around my house that appears to be pregnant. Her nipples are protruded and her stomach is round. I've seen her last litter of kittens not even 6 weeks ago so it's strange that she is pregnant again.

She is very friendly but I'm hoping I can get her to come in the house with these kittens so I can get her altered before she has another litter.
