  • Knew Steve from 1st grade though High School His name was Steve Chacetti (sic) then and we had an elementary school competition as to who knew the most about dinosaurs. Good to see him as a successful guitarist.-steve douglas

  • This is his take on Libba Cotten's Spanish Flangdang ....

  • Were all waiting on a change.....

  • Love Stev Jam!

  • A must see in person!

  • I like the little bit of " Bufflo girls.

That's one of the tunes my mother taught me when i was five yrs old.

    This was in 1945.

    You're a great guitatist.

    5 stars.

  • Steve teaches Bear Creek Hop in his Fingerstyle Blues book. It's on his second album IIRC, which might be out of print now. The tune isn't too hard to pick up, although struggle as I might, I cannot get the palm harmonic "hop" part to sound right.

  • Steve is great! So funny and knowledgable.....an excellent teacher....the real deal!

  • Just took a week of workshops from Steve at the Centrum Blues camp. Incredible talent, teacher, and humorist!

  • Just caught Steve James at a small local blues festival - he played these two pieces among others. Didn't know the name before, you can bet I won't forget it. What a musician. His deep knowledge, love and respect for the old time music is clear and his playing is just beyond words. Fantastic storyteller too. I'm not a musician, but I know *real* music when I hear it and brother, this is it.

  • Steve James is brilliant, just seen him on my country on an excellent performance. He also took his mandolin and played some really good songs.

  • he was with the x angels 4 a while, they were amazing

  • Right, the first song is "Spanish Fandango." The second one does sound a little bit like "Buffalo Gals," but it's actually called "Bear Creek Hop." (James played this same combination of tunes on his recent appearance on NPR, and he gave the titles.)

  • The second tune is "Buffalo Girls" - type it into YouTube to hear a couple of really good banjo versions.

    Steve

  • The first half is Spanish Fandango - which gave its name to the open tuning used. In Delta blues the two common open tunings were this (Spanish) and Vestapol. Can't remember the name of the second piece - will have to dig out my Steve James cds! He is a Master - and his story telling skills match his guitar playing! Catch him live if you can - you will not be disappointed!

  • Your are the best!

  • PICK IT BROTHER!

  • Steve James - What a player!

    Whats the tune?

    Thanks for sharing.
