TBDBITL is volunteer, and does try-outs, but what many of you FORGET TO realize is that they do tryouts EVERY week for positions on the band. If you want to be on the band, you have to know your stuff and be better than someone else in your section.
Alumni band is only used when its alumni day, and is also when OSUMB will do 4 script ohios, 2 with the band on the sidelines, and 2 with the alumni in the endzones.
Actually, just because tryouts hadnt occured doesnt mean it's a volunteer band. As to my knowledge, they bring back the previous years band to play that game
it's a volunteer band. the alumni band performed separately at pregame (I believe it was pregame...). just because they bring back an alumni band doesn't make it mandatory. at Miami U., all music education majors are required to be in marching band for 2 years so for them it's not volunteer but for non-music majors like me, it's completely voluntary.
Here is the scoop on the volunteer game stuff. Generally...The first game of the season is the previous year's band. For example, the game coming up this week against YSU is last years band. Because not everyone from last year's band can come back (graduating seniors with new jobs), some people from our "Athletic Band" fill the holes. In most cases, these extras are people who have tried out in the past and been cut but have had the extra year to practice and get better.
nope, no sarcasm there...the timing of their arms is way off...i know a lot of factors played into that tho, mainly the fact that they hadn't had their band camp yet, but still...
If you knew as much as you thought you did you would know that the OSUMB doesn't do "band camp". This is a volunteer band, as try-outs had not yet occured.
yes i know it's a volunteer band just like many across the country (including miami's). i don't know what it's called then, but by "band camp" i'm referring to the period of time that auditions take place and members are selected and learn how to do what they do.
Okay people...

How many people try out and are cut from Miami's band? I'm sure that it's extremely competative to be part of the MUMB.
