it's one of those animes that tries to break away from the usual "light hearted" theme of most other animes, to a more melancholic one that's more appeal-able to western critics. it gives this eerie kind of atmosphere too. reminds me of last exile.

yeah they seemed extremely similar to me with the whole genetic difference and large robots and flying ships that remain in the sky like boats and all that shit along with the fact that the main ship made money as a postal ship even though that wasn't their business like how the crew on the Geko made revenue by selling their magazines.

Indeed. Both anime were conceived and created by the same animation studio, BONES. I was turned off by the similarities at first, but in retrospect, the show was enjoyable, thanks especially to its top notch production values.

I showed somebody the anime OP and as soon as they found the actual song they didn't stop listening to it. They must have listed to it more than 20 times in one day.

As for the anime itself, once again it's Studio Bones excellence. Even with the other anime out this season I still consider it one of the best animated and most interesting, which is all that much more remarkable when you consider that it's a PSN title.
