It's a funny scene, but I really crack up knowing it is scripted and choreographed, played with straight faces... 'til the end when Martha does her thing. The last, huge volley does appear to be on wires, thank god.
@gregoryagogo Some arrow-shooting scenes in films were done by pre-implanting arrows in the targets, with thin wires attached to their ends. On cue, the wires get yanked, pulling the arrows out. Now, run the film in reverse, & it looks like the real thing.
That said, I don't think they did that here. My guess is that they had several expert archers shooting real arrows. The key is, the way the scene's shot, they could be very close to the actors - maybe 3 feet away - and still be off-camera.
martha raye is just hilarious in this wonderful crazy movie. Love love love!

I still haven't figured out how they did this! I'm sure they weren't really acting with arrows flying past inches from them!

@gregoryagogo "I painly see the arrow come in the frame from the left."
Not sure what your point is. In either method that I decribed, you would see the arrow come into the frame from outside of it.

Her dress is over the top. Tight-fitting... she reminds me of "Ruby" from "Ruby's Diner" in this movie!
