  • lol for Mr.Bean :)

  • I heard this in the opera house. I had a 'Flow' moment. I was one with the music (I don't say that lightly, I can only recall 3 or 4 times it has ever happened to me). It felt as if Mozart himself was talking to me. You simply cannot buy that experience for money.

  • happy birthday mozart!

  • I just had a thought. The scene where Gothel confronts Rapunzel over Flynn in Tangled is suspiciously similar to this iconic scene.

  • Pour moi l'une des meilleures Reine de la Nuit que j'ai entendu

  • 213 people must kill Sarastro xD

  • i can sing the flute part.

  • Can you imagine the people who were there and don't know how lucky they are.

  • Resisting the urge to sing along is like trying to resist Keira Knightley begging for an anal, completely and utterly pointless to do.

  • @JanissarialGuard that made me LOL!

  • i tried farting it

  • @yh3e shut up please

  • LOVE THIS!

  • she made a mistake but how can I blame her for this?

  • How could someone dislike this video.

  • i wish my mother would yell at me like that!

  • Literally MINDBLOWING!!

  • i'm 12 and i love this

  • WHOA!!!! i dont know what kind of music was that but i was really AMAZED!!!

I wonder if my idol taylor swift, ladygaga and katy perry can do that????

  • @gunzsheik11 No, they can't, because they're not profesionally trained, nor are dramatic sopranos :)

  • Whoa, even when I don't understand German, I can understand the anger. Fantastic acting performance by Diana, and superb singing!

  • Mozart was a genius.

  • @Ardenwolfe This is easily one of the most powerful pieces of music I have ever heard. I'm conducting the orchestra, I'm not trying to sing it. Me trying to sing it... it would be a crime against humanity ;-). FSM, I love this piece of music.

  • @Ardenwolfe That's an understatement.

  • @Ardenwolfe Captain Obvious.

  • Song starts at 2:08

  • Doing this for a college audition. SOOOOOO much fun to sing! You feel like a total bad-arse.

  • mmh wer will mit mia schreiben

  • i like this version!

  • She is simply the best!

  • point of referent when the song begins: 2:11

  • Joan Sutherland did not like performing the Magic flute. She had a contractural obligation performance -covent garden 1962,which unfortunately has found its way onto YT.She couldnt hit the high F,the aria wes transposed down so that it was an E,played havoc with the orchestral arrangement. The amazing thing about DD,here is the performance. She is in character throughout and you fully believe she is the Queen!!

  • na ich wiege 300 kilo

  • I'm 12 years old and what is this?

  • I'm a 250,000 year old re-animated dinosaur, and I love this. Pay attention to me please, I'm special!

  • Mozart, you ARE a genius.

  • I must have listen to this a million times when practicing for this aria! I love this!

  • Nobody gives a shit of who you are. :) just saying.

  • I'm 14 old girl, singin' in a classical music house as a soprano and love this!

  • @FireSath Listen to Joan Sutherland sing this piece. Joan Sutherland voice is alot more powerful and has more agility and beauty.

  • @Royalorgans

She can't hit those high Fs though :/

  • why are the most liked comments people announcing their ages? does it matter? doesn't change the music. anyone can enjoy it... (ps i'm 24 ;) )

  • she's amazing

  • Neither Sutherland nor Sills can compare to Damrau in THIS role. Sutherland just didn't have the range and Sill didn't have the dark, emotional drive for the role. Damrau has both. Incredible. I bet even Mozart applauded!

  • @larryecollins Sutherland was and still is supreme. Because you recording technology, Damrau sound it little bit mroe clearer. Joan and Sills are superior.

  • @Royalorgans It's the matter of opinion. Yes, Sutherland is a great songbird, she has a strong and beautiful voice with great agility. But she is emotionless and her diction is bad. Damrau doesn't treat this aria like just a coloratura showpiece, she communicates the emotions of the character.

  • It's impossible to listen to this and not try to sing it.

  • @mahtexas lo see me salee solo algunas partesss peroo las notass son demasiado altasss

    muy buena musicaa bravooooo

  • @mahtexas it is impossible to sing it.

  • @AquartesTheGray

Impossible? No. It is just that there are only very, very, very few people who can hit those high notes cleanly and easily. So many who try...and whom it is just a pain to listen to.

  • @figaroblack i know it's possible, my vocal teacher sings it. i just commented on guy's comment and went a bit far.

  • @mahtexas It is also impossible to sing it.

  • @mahtexas And fail :)

  • Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen,

Tod und Verzweiflung flammet um mich her!

fühlt nicht durch dich Sarastro Todesschmerzen,

so bist du meine Tochter nimmermehr.

    Verstoßen sei auf ewig,

    verlassen sei auf ewig,

    zertrümmert sei'n auf ewig

    alle Bande der Natur

wenn nicht durch dich Sarastro wird erblassen!

Hört, Rachegötter, hört der Mutter Schwur!

  • Queen Of the Night= Tragic Feminist Hero.

  • @hmorrible I actually lead a feminism paper I just finished with a quote from this scene ^_^

  • @hmorrible hero? or Heroine? :)

  • I AINT FARTING 0:58

  • im so in love with the dialogue before the song! its so *GERMAN* hahahaha <3

  • I am a baritone, and this song is in my range two octaves down :D Very fun warm up lol.

  • I understand this is supposed to be a dramatic scene where she asks her to kill him but that part at 2:48 always makes me giggle, in a good way, not understanding german it just seems so joyful to me :)

  • The high pitch screeches in this composition is basically to let Pamina know her anguish and pain that she is bearing by having Sorastro alive. Similar to when you are sick, you try to sound convincing by making grunting and deep sighing sounds.

  • @Drbolla345 i dont think screeches is the right word

  • @Drbolla345 Uh, try high notes. not high "screeches" listen to Florence Foster Jenkins for screeches. The coloratura supposed to be laughing.

  • I think she's pissed

  • I hate opera but I love this, this woman is brilliantly talented! Can't find talent like this on the pop charts.

  • @Thebrad0US Maybe you don't hate opera as much as you think, maybe you just listened to operas you didn't like until now? Like with any other genre, one can ilke one opera and not like another, one aria and not the other, one singer but not the other.

  • 2:08, you're welcome

  • 表現出的夜后相當的有強度!

  • Mozart was actually really underrated during his time and few of his pieces were ever taken seriously...

    sucks.

  • @LOLRSK8R90 True. This should be a lesson for some of today's public who equates commercial success and popularity with greatness.

  • Must seen before dead

  • na wer is deutsch

  • This makes it worth for me learning German at school.

  • Your gotten fatter, get thin ...Blah blah be a glorious style hahah xD

  • how great!

she is great actress and great singer.

I don't know her , but she must be a

    famos Opera singer.

  • OMG! are those notes even possible?? xD

  • I'm a 15 year old black boy, and I LOVE this.

Good music and talent is easy to recognize, and this is superb.

  • @DomoB96 It's always great to see young people interested in opera. Makes one hope for the future.

  • @DomoB96 Listen to Joan Sutherlands version

  • @DomoB96 listen to Joan Sutherland version. It is better. Joan Voice is alot bigger and has more agility

  • @DomoB96 GOOD FOR YOU!

  • @DomoB96 what the hell does your age or skin colour have to do with liking ANY sort of music?? I'm glad you do, but that comment really makes it seem as though Black people can't appreciate and like anything outside of rap and hip-hop.

  • @fishgul69 I think he said that because well... it what most people just assume... maybe your one of the few who doesn't but most people in this world think that black people only listen to hip-hop or R&B or rap. I'm not saying that I do.. I'm partially black myself so I'm not trying to be rude. But most people assume that 15 years old black teenage boys don't really care for anything but rap and hip-hop... and you didn't have to be so rude to him...

  • @pinksadi13 believe me, pink, I was being far from rude. stern, yes, but not rude.

  • @fishgul69 Stern is just a nice way of saying rude, no matter how you put it.. mmkay?

  • @pinksadi13 you know, you're right. so I'll be stern with you: I know what/how ignorant people view young Blacks in this country because I am one. his comment was ignorant because it said, "even though I'm Black, I like this music" not "I just like this music because I can". oh and congrats on being "partial black", I'm sure you're the one to put me in my place, but that doesn't change the way I feel about what I said or how I said it. mmkay?

  • @fishgul69 Thanks I'm quite proud of myself as well, but I'm just saying if you wanted to tell him that you could have easily said it in a nicer way. I wasn't saying what you stated was wrong.. I'm saying you could have told him in a more civilized way instead of being a total barbarian about it.

  • Joan Sutherland is better.

  • @Royalorgans You've GOT to be kidding! This role was a REAL stretch for Sutherland. She was good, but not great. Certainly not better!

  • holy shit, I love this

  • Scene 3 is my favourite, where the queen of the night is revealed truly as the antihero to sarastro

  • Hiram

  • I would love to see this whole opera live before I die.

  • What a depressing language

  • i can understand some of the german but i really came for the music

  • @MRLoadingERROR Look at Wagnerlover comment below -- a really great and witty description of what is going on.

  • UNBELIEVEABLE!!

  • She's just breathtaking and I don't know if it's intentional that they did this; but she's just scary!!

  • @500arabella:

The queen is a very evil character forcing her daughter to kill a man!

  • lol mein hintern ist geil

  • She's just fabulous.

  • Mozart channeling Wes Craven. Way over the top, but riveting. Anyone seeing this is not likely to forget it.

  • dang that woman can sing!

  • i dont think that is masonic it just beautiful

  • Incredible performance, I almost have tears in my eyes *--*

  • Unreal !!! I listen to it once a week and pretend to be her... I just can't believe this is a human.. It's so so like what I expect in the after life.

  • SATB

  • This must be very hard esspaicially 2:49

  • Are the Queen of the Night's attendants Bene Gesserits??

  • I find it so impressive that she can speak/act with such passion and a harshness in her voice, then instantly switch into that amazing singing voice! That takes so much training! This is my favourite version, I have it on DVD hahaha.

  • YESS!!!! im 15 years old AND I LOVE THIS!!!!

AH AH AHHH AHAHHH OOOH OHAAHOHAHOAAA xD

  • @20centuryBOY1 Listen to Joan Sutherland. Her voice is better and has alot more agilty and power.

  • Saratro lebt in der unterwelt und die Königin der nacht Lebt oben also im Himmel deshalb sind sie getrennt geworden weil sie nicht zusammen passen :(

  • ey das was ich entdeckt habe geht sowas von ab

  • YESS!!!! im 18 years old AND I LOVE THIS!!!!

AH AH AHHH AHAHHH OOOH OHAAHOHAHOAAAA

  • The best cast ever!!! You cannot compared to any big productions of the same opera all over the world. I can say that because I've seen most production of this opera...

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    I LOVE YOU Diana

  • I like to think that if I listen to this enough times i'll understand the German, but I haven't taken a single German class. ANWAYS, her singing was OMGAMAZING I doubt very many people can sing like that!!

  • Forse la migliore Regina della Notte a mio parere.

  • LA MIGLIORE !!!

  • Such an incredible voice

  • I love how she terrorizes the room. I hate it when they make little girls and boys who obviously still have the voice being children sing this aria. It is one of the most venomous pieces of music ever written in opera, and it needs to be performed with anger, hatred and impatience.

And obviously, DD has the voice to sing it like a bird of paradise. Those top notes are unmatched among the sopranos of the modern times.

  • @calaftheeast I think no one should be ALLOWED to sing it until they're at least 25 or 30.

  • @Emerson4Vet

I completely agree. Esp. regarding opera. And every reputable and successful opera performer says the exact same thing.

  • Diana Damrau is one of the few women who you can actually understand when she sings this.

  • When we will make contact with an alien race, Mozart's music will be one of the few thinks we will have to convince them that we are not a worthless spieces...

  • @svevo Let us hope that the fact we are capable of appreciating Motzart's music will be enough to save our race. Because it doesn't seem as if we are capable of independent thought right now.

  • @svevo unless they cant stand high sounds :D

  • hmz bin selber aus Frankfurt

  • แรงนะอีสัส

  • hihi ich bin erregt

  • @chippfan You have exactly defined my feelings!

  • naa schaut mich an bin ein frosch

  • omg!!! This is amazing and breathtaking and scary and wonderful and gives me goosebumps!!!

  • what's my mom doing in this vid? wtf!

  • cool wohne in leipzig

  • The song starts at 2:08

  • AMA-ZING!!! at some part, her voice go up like a piccolo

  • lool kuckt auf mich bin n hamster

  • 202 people need to get their brains checked

  • @nnero0

its okay, they're just pissed cuz their windows are broken

  • Man, if you actually had the ability to perform it this well, imagine how much fun it must be.

  • geil ich bin eine gummi puppe

  • ... -just came-

  • love this! :D

  • Listen to Uran Urtnasan, shes as good as Damrau <3

  • Let's put this way.

201 people clicked thumbs down button because they are deaf so they can't listen to it.

The "thumbs down" here actually is a protest againt their own decease because they think this can be great but they can't listen to it.

  • I don't know that this is the best vocal recording of this piece (I like Edda Moser's vocal production) but it certainly brings home the feeling that this is an "oh shit." moment...

  • Diana no es solo la mejor interprete sino una excelente actriz....casi como si sudara la maldad d ela reina...

  • THIS IS SO FUCKING GREAT! I CANT BELIEVE WHAT EMOTIONS MUSIC IS ABLE TO RELEASE!

  • mmh ich bin blond

  • naa meine brüste wachsen

  • I'd like to speak German fluently. I've learned it when I was in college. I've forgotten them all except the basic grammar. Anyway, Diana is very gifted. She probably is the best so far.

  • Brilliant - love how she articulates...its not like the other's

  • Now, That's how that aria should be sung! Wow. So many sopranos sing it too thin and sweet. She rocks. Once upon a time, I did that aria (in grad school) and my aim was to sing it with passion and steel. Diana totally nails it. IMHO. What a great performer too. I'm inspired... Not sure I could still pull out those F's though!

  • Love it but what is she saying?

  • @KelleyWhitehouse :Look down 5 comments below yours where Wagnerlover has given a summary of the mother and daughter dialogue and aria!!!

  • @KelleyWhitehouse This scene happens in act 2 during the garden scene. Basically the queen of the night demands that her daughter Pamina take the dagger that she gives her and kill a priest name Sorastro. Sorastro is against the queen of the night and is foiling the plans that she has in store for her daughter. But Sorastro is also the priest that is going to marry them both. But if she doesn't comply, Pamina is going to lose everything, her life, her happiness and including the man she loves.

  • For some reason, she really reminds me of an Asari, they should cast her as one in the ME movie.

  • @Wagnerlover777 your description is amazing!! lolololololol

  • oh man this is SO FREAKING AMAZING. if only i knew what they were saying....

  • @thetubeghost1 ore 14.49 22/09/2011.......grazie x avermela suggerita...pura magia.

  • hello TALENT yes........great acting too...and who is the costume designer.?.....i loved this whole look

  • Such an unromanitic language eh? Can you imagine your wife telling the most intimate things she wants to do-it would sound like she is cursing you and your manhood eh? (noy to offend anyone but hey, am I wrong?

  • @vonkiser ich lieber dich. how is that even agressive. du bist zehr schon. arguments are what you wanna look out for...

  • @vonkiser nope, you're perfectly right xD

  • My hi-fi just explode!

  • I love Queen Of The Night.

  • このアリアで感情の表出としてのフレージング(コントロール)が出来る人はすごく少ないのですが、彼女は素晴らしいです。パッセージの一つ一つに意味を感じる。Grate!

  • Sucks to be on her shitlist...
