i do believe in the rapture but these predictions on when it would happen blow my mind. i dont understand why christians would predict because yes, the rapture may happen whenever but no-one knows when. people said it was the end of the world on may 21, but the world doesnt just blow up and nothing living will survive, what happened to the 7 years of tribualtion? i dont think they consdered that when they said "the world is going to end" but thats just my point of view..
@MrsRealJessie While we can all agree that predicting the end of the world is a futile exercise, I think your comment definitely points to part of the problem. Because the Bible verses that form the basis of rapture theology aren't in any way related to the detailed Apocalyptic portions of the Bible it leaves a lot open to interpretation. Some people believe there will be 7 years of tribulation, some 1000 years. These people believed there would be 5 months of tribulation following the rapture.
I feel sorry for the people who really believed that it was today. I read about one man "who spent more than $140,000 of his savings on subway posters and bus shelter advertisements warning of the May 21 Judgment Day." (msnbc) People should be less gullible, and verify information before they believe it, especially when it can lead to life changing decisions.
@EnigmaNorth I completely agree. People need to read and study the Bible for themselves and not let someone else dictate to them what it means, especially in a situation like this.
