@shockofhyperbole In music like this you HAVE to use triggers to be able to hear the bassdrum throuhg the huge wall of sounds. But he's using a mic for the bass drums as well to make it sound natural
@Metalobsession94 That makes sense, but couldn't that be fixed with proper mixing? Because a lot of the early death metal bands had fairly audible bass drums and i'm pretty sure that they didn't have triggers.
@shockofhyperbole without the trigger, the volume of the bassdrum would go up and down a bit cause every hit can't be exactly as loud. And because of that, it's really hard to set the right volume. With the trigger it's way easier to controll the sound. But i think that you should only trigger the bassdrum. All the other drums should be miced!
@IceTrey98c if you ever hit the studio with a death metal or black metal band or any brutal genré, you'll see that trigger makes it sound WAY better. You'll find out yourself when you're in the studio. A normal mic just isn't good enough. Trigger+mic is the best thing to do! You get the awesome tight trigger sound but still the natural sound from the bassdrum
@shockofhyperbole For recording it can be a huge timesaver. What counts for me is how they play live. One can "cheat" when recording (using e-drums/midi/whatever) to make it sound perfect on the album, as long as they can live up to what they put on the album when playing a concert. (so no 400 bpm double bass programming when you can only play 150 bpm live :D ).
"EVEN Stagg!" Yep, even the pro's are allowed to admit Stagg sucks :L
