  • from :32 to 1:09 is the finale of firebird, and i only know that because we just played it in our orchestra performance.

  • This film, The Royal Ballet, is one of the supremely great ballet films of all time, yet is rare and not widely distributed. Made by Paul Czinner, who mastered the problems behind filming a stage production of opera or ballet.

He filmed Ulanova's Giselle, Furtwangler's Don Giovanni, Fonteyn and Nureyev in Romeo and Juliet, and this fantastic film with Fonteyn's heart stopping Swan Lake, Firebird and Ondine.

What is the ballet which begins at 0'32 and ends at 1'09?

  • It's Swan Lake..

  • The dance of the Cygnets by the Royal Ballet here is unsurpassed. It is pure perfection. The story is subliminal and the dancing is divine. Watch how each dancer is dancing her own dance but yet the four are as one. The subtleties of the music and the emotion of the cygnets, in support of Odette, their friend, are displayed throughout this piece. What love!

  • Glad you liked it.

  • I second that!

  • Love that Royal Ballet precision -all moving as one, spot on the music! Don't like the backdrop, but it must be a wonderful film. I'm supposing it includes The Firebird, some of which is also featured here.
