Hey quick question. If u compress after you have done the recording. Do u take the output of your interface and put it back through the compressor? Great video :)
Do you prefer to use compression before or after. Most people say after but do you prefer the tone of compressing first or do you have another reason? Thanks
@jwalsh8 It depends on what I am recording. I will compress things like kick drums, sometimes vocals before the mixing stage to control any excessive peaks. But it is better to wait to compress if you can because compression changes the tone and you don't want to be dedicated to a compression tone if you don't have to be!
Hi. I'm shopping around for audio interface and I'm torn between Presonous Audiobox and M-Audio Fast Track Pro. I've read positive and negative comments on both and I don't know which one to choose for my Macbook Pro. Which one do you suggest? By the way, I love watching your channel because its full of information! Keep up the good work!
Hey whatsup man, im about to get a macbook soon and i plan on making a home studio. I want to make it into a rap studio. you think i can maybe get your email so i can message you any questions. Thanks thatd be so helpful :D
I remember once I put the piano using this one clable and it was really clean. The cable I have is 20 dollars. I don't think it is a great cable...do you have any clable that you recommend? and again thanks for the reply.
@TheLCello If you have another cable in your house just try it and see what happens. Especially before you buy something! Other than that I don't have any USB cable I like more than another. I like USB cables that work.... that's my only criteria!
Hey man your videos are awesome. Thanks for all the help. I recently bought the pre-sonus usb box, not this one you are showing but the other one. The problem is that I usually get a "shhhh-like" kind of sound like a background noise. I usually take some of it out from sonar 8 but it doesn't work completely. Do you know how to make this noise kind of disapear? I would appreciate your help.
@TheLCello This sounds like a bad cable to me. My PreSonus Audiobox is relatively quiet and I know that in tha past I have run into the "hiss" but a fresh cable fixed it. If it does NOT you might have a bad box and should talk to PreSonus ASAP!
Lewin, I have one question : would an hardware compressor plugged between the mic and the pre give better results than a software equivalent called from the VST insert slots of your DAW 's input channels ? If yes, why? tnx for your kind answer - Mark Lasley
these also have a mono output, and they all can be directly connected in mono. For example anyone ever want to use these live with a guitar amps effects loop and manage dynamics and the eq and keep your amp from clipping? Run the compressor from your send at +4dB mono if switchable, then pesonus makes a parametric EQ, PRESONUS EQ3B, also with a mono option and run your compressor to the EQ so your tones not flat. your live sound will effect your recordings if your EQ and Picking is off.
im really considering linking the comp 16, TubePre Microphone Preamp from presonus and their PreSonus bluetube to my maudio profire 2626 do you think that sounds like a great setup?
hey man looking at a compressor for my home studio can i connect this to my mixer and control it with the fx nob on my mixer?, Thanks lewin love all your vids
first thing: No you wouldn't really want to run the compressor through an AUX if you can avoid it. Depending on the mixer you have, there should be an "Insert" on the back of it. You'll need an "Insert Cable" to connect the compressor. This is really the ideal way to connect it your mixer.
remembr not to compress to much on individual tracks because the overall project will sound dull. compress just enough to take out the peaks so you can boost the volumes slightly. compression is really for mastering overall dynamic range
how would you connect this to your computer?, im using a Behringer XENYX 1222FX USB Mixer and dont realy understand how it goin to connect to either one and make them both work, also i wanted to get the presonus tube pre and that makes it a lil more confusing on how to connect my mic to something and make them pass threw more then one thing, big thanks :)! love da vids keep it up
Hey man, very nice review! I'm trying to find a small compressor for my band's live gigs, as most of the venues around here don't even have compressors lol. With my vocal style varying in volume quite a lot, I'm wondering whether this compressor will be fine for live performances too? Should do I guess, but hey, you're the reviewer! lol :p Cheers man.
presonus tube pre + comp 16 works ok ??? , i connect my mic first on the tube pre and next the output of tube pre goes to the input of the compresor ? and finally the output of the compresor to my audio card ???.
@Garagebandandbeyond So, if you were using say the Fire studio Mobile, You would go from the Tubepre, to the compressor into the front of the fire studio, or into a line in on the back?
Great review, please make a video where you show how to connect it and how to use and so on... I'm new att this external effects things and I cant but one without knowing what to do with it that seems a little pointless

Does everybody know if it comes ina a stereo version?
Do you think would fit for electronic music (techno, d&b and so on...)?

I haven't tried it live, but I do think that it would be good in live application.
It's ease of use would be a big plus if you're running your own sound. You might try calling PreSonus and see what they say.
Thanks for the nice comment!

@FiSTFigHT09 You cant plug a mic or instrument directly into the compressor. The signal from both need to be powered first.
