quick question: without a barometric altimeter the unit would not be able to calculate elevation at all? How does this component work?

@jonny8pie it use the gps antena to take the elevation like other gps. olso you can do it with the barometric altimeter, or swith the barometric sensor to a constant high , then you can read barometric preasure change to predict wheather. sorry about my english

Well, the manual says it measures the pressure even when switched off. Every 15 minutes, but it must be switched to stationary setting.
