John Hughes movies influenced me more than any other growing up and that is the reason why I am a Youtube Partner today. Thank you John and to the academy for posting this wonderful heart-wrenching tribute.
I may be only 13 but I really love all of John Hughes movie's. I have seen all the brat pack movies and just all of his movie's. It's sad he is dead. No one will ever make movie's like him. R.I.P John.
They gave him an Oscar tribute and yet John Hughes was never nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a B.A.F.T.A. or hardly any award and yet he wrote and directed so many classics. It just goes to show you how pointless and materialistic awards are.
Duck: I think it is interesting too because when I think of Oscar nominated movies I don't think of the most popular movies, but more thoughtful ones. Are there some that are more popular and thoughtful at the same time? if you know what i mean. I agree that you are right that these popular movies are interesting even if they aren't "award" winners. I was 5 when TBC came out and it is a big "duh" to me that it is a popular movie. I have watched HA and HA2 tons. 7 yo nephew loves it now too!!!
@94Tka He is one of those actors that I swear never ages too. and I am not (at the age of 32 next may) old enough to remember him in 1980) but I do know he looks basically the same as in Footloose as he does now. Emilio Estevez looks a TON younger then than now. Not that he looks old now but he just looked really young in TBC. :) and is it just me as someone who is younger but the actor who was Ferris' friend in FBDO (forget his actual name seriously) looks SO different in Spin City.
I cried the day he died, I was so upset the whole day at school and no one understood. I guess not many 12 year olds understand how utterly wonderful John Hughes was.
I WISH IF SOMEONE MAKE A BRAT PAKC MOVIE AS A COMEBACK FOR THE GROUP AND HAVE JUDD,ROB,ANDY EMILIO,TONY,DEMI,ALLY,MOLLYIN IT I WISH IT HAPPEN SOME DAY
Fuck I cried. John Hughes, wherever you are, thank you. Thank you so much. More than anything, your films helped me realise life should be embraced for every second and not wished away. So much truth and wisdom in every one of your fims.
I wasnt a teen in the 80's but the first time I watched The Breakfast Club in my media class last year i fell in love with that movie and after that i tried and researched every John Hughes movie there is that i could find xD
Pretty in Pink is another fav of mine :)
So many teen movies today dont quite compare up to the par that these movies were.
I'm not going to lie, I cried when I watched this. The first time I saw a John Hughes movie was when I was about 7 years old. Sure, I may only be 17 now, but in these ten years that have passed, I've watched the rest of his movies all because of the one I watched when I was 7. It was "Home Alone" which is still, to this day, one of my favourite movies of all time, along with his others, such as "The Breakfast Club", "Weird Science" and more. But really, it's my parents I have to thank. RIP John.
My cousin is best friends with John Hughes's wife, Nancy. One day, my cousin brought my aunt over to John and Nancy's home, way before he was famous, when they were just dating. My aunt, to this day, says that he was the funniest man she'd ever met. I never got to meet John, but I'll here story's about him for the rest of my life. His legacy will go on forever.
lawnprinter300 and FOMFilm the movie at the movie at 3:10 is indeed one of John Hughes finest Some Kind Of Wonderful. As much as I like Molly Ringwald it really would have been cool if they could have got Sloan, Mia Sara, back to come out for this tribute with Ferris, Mathew Broderick. I love this tribute though, the dj
And another thing, why were they the only actors that paid tribute. There were many more that was in his films. Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Kevin Bacon etc...but still I love this tribute.
Don't say he was the worst director. He was a great director, that man gave his heart and soul to his films. Show some respect, he passed away. I was born in '89 and over the years I've heard of John Hughes and some of his films, hell I even watched films that he written and produced and I didn't know that they were his films. My favorite movie is 'Sixteen Candles". Whenever I get a chance my mom and I watch his films together. They may not been something to you but they were great to others.
In many ways this tribute shows how pointless awards are. John Hughes was never nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, Bafta, WGA, DGA - in fact nothing. Yet millions of people know his movies.
@YaiBugy You act as if "coming of age" films is a bad thing! "American Graffiti","Breaking Away", "Summer of '42" were also "coming of age" films. Also, remember the teen films we had before John Hughes? If it weren't for him, we'd have been stuck in "Losin' It", "Porky's" and "Last American Virgin" hell.
I like what they're trying to do but I don't think this tribute was well done. I think they didn't do a good job with the editing and the actors sounded like they were reading some lines. Anyway, if all of those actors were in my house it would feel like an acid trip. Much respect to Hughes, the only God!
Hollywood owned by Corporations would never green light a John Hughes script. Now they want fake shallow kids doing lewd things; have to have the stripper bodies and the guys have to be perfect. Hollywood you suck and so do the assholes that run WGM and other record labels who want to keep shelling out shitty slut pop and trash rap music.
After watching 7 of his movies I am so sad that John is no longer with us because in the future as a Screenplay writer I wanted to have the chance to meet him so that he can teach me how his comedy in his movies is so Laugh-Out-Loud Funny.
After watching 7 of his movies I am so sad that John is no longer with us because in the future as a Screenplay writer I wanted to have the chance to meet him so that he can teach me how his comedy in his movies is so Laugh-Out-Loud Funny.
@N3v3rB4ck More so the greatest writer. He wrote the scripts for Ferris Buellers Day off, 16 candles, the breakfest club etc which was much more impressive than his directing.
I, myself, love Kubrick's work and to this day he was the best; however, what Hughes created is so sweet, cheering and wonderful that it knows no age.
They are not mindless at all ... if you can't relate to them then you never had good teen time.
Before I knew who john Hues's name.I remember noticing a pattern in the 80's -90's that made me aware this was the same director...John's reference to The Beatles even if it was to quote John Lennon - he may have done it in every film. Almost sure he uses 60's british invasion music in every film. I predict some of these films will be reference material in the Smithsonian in the future -RIP John Huges.
Out of my favorite movies the majority are from John Hughes. And I was born in 1985 no less. A true testament to just how powerful and timeless his work really was. And I know his films will have the same effect on those born in 95 and beyond.
Anyone born in the early/mid 80s will know just how profound Home Alone was to their life. One of the best people to ever grace cinema. Very tough to top.
I absolutely love his movies. He really understood what it was like to be a teen in the 80's, especially if you were from the Chicago area. He will live on and I own many of his movies. I was sad he died.
Let's not forget that John Hughes was the only director who knew what to do with John Candy - another great man I can't help but cry over from time to time.
You gotta love the chain hanging on Judd Nelson's pants. Just a reminder of the awesome badass he once played

John Hughes is honestly an inspiration and still to this day speaks to teenagers.

I saw this movie in the theatre stoned with all of my friends. Those were the days, 13 and carefree, and baked out of our minds!
