I think the N word is used as an affectionate term among black people, that's why so many rappers sing about it in their songs. But it's WRONG for anyone to use it because it's derived from one of the darkest periods in American history. Those are my 2 cents.

@RussainCommunist what African Americans had to go through happened a very long time ago, its the 21st century now, lots of things have changed-in how people view others and even laws(for instance interracial marriage became legal not that long ago). Like many other words, or phrases, the 'N' word has evolved. The phrase "rule of thumb" originally referred to the fact that a man could beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Tons of people still use this phrase today, but it most often means that whatever being talked about is basic knowledge. Most women that I know of, including myself, don't oppose the use of this phrase. Like I said~it's evolved. As far as the "N" word, it depends in which context it's being used. :/

I agree as well, I mean im a white person, but I dont think a word like that should be used or thrown around so easily. I agree totally when you said what happened to saying my brother my sister. That to me is so much more appealing and polite, and just friendly. How uneducated. Anyone who has studied linguistics or even another language based in Latin (especially French) knows where the word "nigger" comes from. It comes from the Latin "niger" which means "black". We use it in medical terminology even today. As in "linea nigra", a sign of pregnancy occurring in the 2nd trimester and means "black line" which is what it is. The stigma surrounding the word has nothing to do with connotation but those who said it in history.

my younger half brother and sister are half black, and i'm white (different dads), and growing up i went through a lot of shit because i had a cultured family. the N word was actually spray painted on my driveway, and i used to get beat up on because i stuck up for them. so yeah, the N word can be a sore spot for me as well.
