@AngryNinja9000 I actually recorded this after I had gotten out of a session recording some country songs (I live in Nashville, TN). That's really the sound they go for...a nice, fat sounding snare and then they compress the daylights out of it. I just didn't re-tune it for the lesson. I typically like my snare a bit more snappy than this. Thanks so much for the kind words!
@Turtlesrossum Really glad the lessons help! Seriously, that's what they're here for. I teach live 4 times a week from my website if you're interested. Thanks so much for letting me know they help...it's what keeps me posting them.
@Weallfart I'll gladly take second to a teacher like Mike Johnston...mad respect for someone who teaches as well as he does (and is a monsta player might I add!). So glad you're getting something out of them...and that you're digging through some of the old lessons...alot of peeps haven't been doing that and I've got a ton of them up here. As for me, I'll be practicing some of your licks you've thrown up here...just checked out a few and they're great!
@imdrumzer They're called Moon Gels...you can get them in any drum department of your local music store, or online. They're my fav way to quickly add a bit of dampening.
Man, I would kill to sit down with you for a half hour. I got the swiss triplet down pat and at crazy speeds..but honestly I have found very little use for it accept for solos that just have crazy mix matched patterns. Do you have any way that this could be incorporated into a metal beat perhaps? I record a lot of metal tunes with the local bands here and I have been itching to throw it in, but I don't think it has the right....stuff...ya know? I can't seem to fit it in. Any tips?
@Drummingwizkid Lol, you can holla at me anytime and we'll chat about whatever you want man...if it's more extensive than email we can catch up on the phone. I don't think it has to be played fast to be cool...I also don't think it has to be played with the hands only...have you thought about using this rudiment on your kick (I'm assuming you use a double kick)...or use it between the right foot and one hand...I would think that would be more useful...-S
@DrummerEtc I rarely use a double kick unless it's absolutely needed..but I can see where you're coming from. I had thought about using it as a sort of quick fill to throw in right before jumping into a chorus section of a tune splitting it between the bass and my 16' tom. I'll have to work that out though. Thanks for the reply. I'll message my email to you. ..I need to post videos though..Waitin till black friday to buy one of those. haha, peace man.
@Drummingwizkid Yea, I don't use dbl kick either...thought about working on it though so I could throw some lessons up on the topic. You're on the right track...I think splitting it between the hands and feet will make for a killa fill, or you might even be able to find a groove with it.
And what are you waiting to buy, a camera? What are you lookin' at getting?
@DrummerEtc I gotta wait right now for a camera, I actually just lost my apartment in a fire...I lost everything..My recording gear, drums everything. I'm just trying to rebuild from that...Gotta take care of the wife and kids before the drumming starts up again....I do however have an on the go drumpad setup..but yeah, moolah needs to come in first. you know how it is man.
@Drummingwizkid I do know...I've got two kids and a wife...took me 2 and a half years to get to a place where I could dump money into my studio...well worth the wait though. Really sorry to hear about the loss...did you have content insurance? One of the most under insured areas...-S
@DrummerEtc At the time I had no idea what content insurance was..Believe me..i'm not making that mistake again. Once I get up and running again, i'll let you know and I'll start posting videos again.
Haha. I find a way to use what I learn in any way possible. Sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it does. haha.

Great chops! Always love your vids. Sidenote: Why do you like your snare tuned so low? I guess I just prefer a tighter sound, but to each his own :)
