Very interesting to hear this overdubbed version. I've only heard the original one (with the prominent guitar play) which was on the reverse side of the single 'The Blizzard'. I like both the versions - they show the passage of time and changing styles - with the same perfect voice !
I think Jim would have recorded with this type of backing had he lived! This over-dub is W-A-Y better than the original,it suits his voice and the song better!
The credits say this song was written by Pat Patterson, but it was actually written by Leon Payne. I have that from a pretty good source, Leon's daughter Myrtie. She says he used Pat Patterson as a pseudonym on occasion.
@artsevere I KNOW THAT LEON PAYNE WROTE UNDER THE PSEUDONYM PAT PATTERSON AND I BELIEVE THAT HE ALSO WROTE UNDER ANOTHER PSEUDONYM. HE WAS A GREAT SONGWRITER AND SINGER AND MUSICIAN! I USED TO LISTEN TO THE CHARLIE WALKER SHOW BROADCAST ON KMAC RADIO IN SAN ANTONIO AND LEON WOULD OFTEN VISIT ON HIS SHOW. SUCH MEMORIES!!!!
@debtrixiecat This (overdubbed) version is is on the 1977 LP "It's Nothin' To Me", it's also on the 1980 LP "The Best Of Jim Reeves Volume IV". The original version (which has radically different background music) is on the 1961 LP "Tall Tales And Short Tempers".
Jim Reeves has a perfect blend in his tunes.A voice of perfection that could never be attained. He sets the level high enough for anyone to reach.Jim Reeves is the Unbeatable.Hi songs echoes through time and culture starting from one end of the earth to the other.Gentleman Jim is the greatest of all singers.
@MosheFanofJimReeves As Leo Jackson said, "There just something magic about that voice". I agree with you totally, Jim was the greatest singer of all time.
Is there a song he does that misses perfection ? the answer is no. I have been singing like Jim ever since I first heard him nearly 50 years ago and thought I was'nt far away.till I made a private recording of his I Come To The Garden Alone.Playing them one after another gave me a sinking feeling, realising to sing his songs is easy,to sound like him is impossible.
Thank you 164will,this is another not released in the UK.
One of Jim´s ten best songs, no doubt about that. I wish that he would have done more in this cool, bluesy vein. From the underrated album Tall Tales and Short Tempers. Never heard this overdubbed version before though. Pretty good guitar, so no harm done. Thanks for posting.
This is a new Jim Reeves song to me, as usual it's just - well it's Jim Reeves, what else can it be but JUST AWESOME!!!!! Thankyou 164 will for posting. Geena.
